The 40 Year-Old Virgin

This weekend's #1 film The 40 Year-Old Virgin is due on DVD from Universal Studios on December 20th, according to freezedriedmovies.com. The disc, which already has been completed, reportedly is going to be packed with extras including commentary tracks, deleted scenes and extended takes, featurettes and more. Director Judd Apatow certainly doesn't skimp on extras - "Freaks & Geeks" and "Undeclared" anyone? - so you know this one will be good. Also don't be surprised if they spring an "uncut" edition on us since this is one of those films that studios just love to extend on DVD. All I ask is keep the poster artwork. Thanks to Brad Miska for the tip.

I just hope the transfer is better than the last Apatow/Carell collaboration, Anchorman.

I assume they'll also be a SE released in the spring. Still, I'll probably pick this one up.

I think this may be the extended...I read an interview that said the man finished the dvd already. I hope they put both versions on it because I'm not sure the movie would benefit with a +20 on the runtime.

From what Apatow has mentioned and hinted at, the "extended cut" (which is 18-20 minutes longer) will probably be billed as an "Unrated" cut.

I wouldn't be shocked if Universal gives us a full-frame DVD-9 for the R-rated edition (which seems to be their practice) and a DVD-14 or 18 for the Unrated version at the same time. It also helps the case since since some of the extras Apatow has hinted at being completed (including a much longer and raunchier version of the speed dating scene) probably couldn't be included on the R-rated disc.

An unrated/extended release would be a nice for a change. I have not seen this at the theater but several friends have actually gone multiple times and enjoyed the humor more and more with each trip.

I was half-joking since it seems to be the trend these days. Still, looking forward to the Unrated, although I hope the dvd has both. Frankly, I'd be happy with either.

Most dvds are completed before they're even released in the theatres ...

Perfect to sandwich between "freeks and geeks" and "undeclared"

I'm hoping the Unrated DVD has both cuts because cranking the film to 2.5 hours could hurt it.

Too bad Universal hates creating multi-disc sets, so all we're probably going to see is a one-disc (either DVD-9, 14, or 18) for this flick.
