Double-sided Universal DVDs that are 2-disc sets in Canada?

In another thread, someone mentioned that the new Orgazmo and Casino SEs from Universal that are double-sided discs here in the US are 2-disc sets in Canada, which has me considering selling my Orgazmo DVD and ordering from Canada. Im wondering if anyone can confirm this and if there are any other DVDs like this, perhaps the new Mallrats DVD? Also, are Universal DVDs in Canada bilingual, I cant remember but it seems like they might be.

Ray is also a 2-disc set in Canada, don't know if the U.S. version is double-sided.

Unfortunately, the Universal Monster Legacy sets aren't 3 disc sets in Canada (they are one single sided and one double sided disc, like the US)

The Casino SE is NOT a 2-disc set in Canada. I ordered it from Canada for this reason, and sure enough, it's a double sided disc. Plus, it skips too and now I have to get a replacement.

sometimes an intial run of a title will be double sided discs (for whatever reason), then future runs will switch to two disc versions (like Universal did with the Battlestar Galactica Miniseries..some people got a single double sided disc, some got two single sided discs without any labels..) ..just thought I'd point that out..

Yeah the original T2: UE is a prime example as well....maybe when people spot 2-disc versions of Orgazmo, Casino, Mallrats, or others, they can post here with what store or etailer they purchased it from...maybe another reason to hold off on some of these.

I originally bought Ray while at my parents' house in Ohio and it was a flipper. The disc froze and skipped, so I returned it, got another one, and had the same problem. I didn't realize this until I got back to my place in Portland, Maine, so I took it back to the Best Buy up here and got home and found my third copy of the film to be a two disc set rather than a flipper. Needless to say, this one played fine, and I was very glad to have the 2 disc version. No clue what dictates what part of the country gets which, though.

Which I never understood. I watch PAL DVDs on my Malata often, and I don't notice this so-called speed up. A fourty minute episode of Dr. Who, for example lasts...wait, are you sitting down...FOURTY MINUTES! I've actually timed it with my watch and compared the time on the DVD player because of people saying this.

That's because Dr Who was always a British production, if i'm not mistaken.

Try something that's American.

This isnt' the thread for this discussion but it's science. As someone who is converting his few PAL discs to NTSC, I can assure you the PAL speed-up is completely real.

Then that would be region one so what would the point be? My point was that if I watch a DVD with a running time of a hour from the UK that's PAL and it is finished in an hour, I don't see where the speed up comes in. It was supposed to be 4% shorter? It should be over in 56 minutes??

He's right...I looked at the running time I'm my UK Casino and it was 8 mins shorter than the region 1. I watched it and can tell it plays faster than the american version.

OK, I got that, and I even googled PAL speed up to edumicate myself on the subject. But when I play a PAL DVD on my region free player, the DVD doesn't play 4% faster than it would if I was playing the same DVD in the UK on a UK made DVD player, does it? All I am saying is I never noticed my region 2 DVDs do that.

So is the reverse true? When UK movies are transfered to DVD for US distribution, do they play slower?

no. the PAL speed-up issue doesn't have anything to do with the country of origin of the film. Most contemporary films are shot at 24 frames per second. PAL is a video format that runs at 25 frames per second. So when film is transferred to PAL video.....they just do a frame for frame transfer and this causes the 4% PAL speedup. It's supposed to be negligible for most people, but I can notice the speedup sometimes with music (pitch changes) for a film I know very well.

The process of transferring film to the NTSC video format is different, and I don't know much about it (NTSC has 30 fps or something like that I think)...but however it is done, it is done in a way that preserves the speed of the film as originally shot.

If you have ntsc equipment, you should really get ntsc discs. If you have proper PAL equipment then in some cases you should go for PAL discs as they can have higher resolution levels.
What I don't get is how can NTSC be the right way to hear a british tv series? Surely it was originally produced to be played on british tvs. I mean you can go on about film supposed to be 24 fps so its sped up, but what about live sports events?
