Double-sided Universal DVDs that are 2-disc sets in Canada?
In another thread, someone mentioned that the new Orgazmo and Casino SEs from Universal that are double-sided discs here in the US are 2-disc sets in Canada, which has me considering selling my Orgazmo DVD and ordering from Canada. Im wondering if anyone can confirm this and if there are any other DVDs like this, perhaps the new Mallrats DVD? Also, are Universal DVDs in Canada bilingual, I cant remember but it seems like they might be.

Ray is also a 2-disc set in Canada, don't know if the U.S. version is double-sided.

Unfortunately, the Universal Monster Legacy sets aren't 3 disc sets in Canada (they are one single sided and one double sided disc, like the US)
|
The Casino SE is NOT a 2-disc set in Canada. I ordered it from Canada for this reason, and sure enough, it's a double sided disc. Plus, it skips too and now I have to get a replacement.

sometimes an intial run of a title will be double sided discs (for whatever reason), then future runs will switch to two disc versions (like Universal did with the Battlestar Galactica Miniseries..some people got a single double sided disc, some got two single sided discs without any labels..) ..just thought I'd point that out..

I've actually timed it with my watch and compared the time on the DVD player because of people saying this.
Try something that's American. This isnt' the thread for this discussion but it's science. As someone who is converting his few PAL discs to NTSC, I can assure you the PAL speed-up is completely real. |

He's right...I looked at the running time I'm my UK Casino and it was 8 mins shorter than the region 1. I watched it and can tell it plays faster than the american version.

So is the reverse true? When UK movies are transfered to DVD for US distribution, do they play slower? |

The process of transferring film to the NTSC video format is different, and I don't know much about it (NTSC has 30 fps or something like that I think)...but however it is done, it is done in a way that preserves the speed of the film as originally shot. |
If you have ntsc equipment, you should really get ntsc discs. If you have proper PAL equipment then in some cases you should go for PAL discs as they can have higher resolution levels.
What I don't get is how can NTSC be the right way to hear a british tv series? Surely it was originally produced to be played on british tvs. I mean you can go on about film supposed to be 24 fps so its sped up, but what about live sports events? |
