Another Sony P&S Alert...

While lurking on the Home Theater Forum I found this:

For anyone looking to replace their old LD editions of Huckleberry Finn and Tom Sawyer:

Be warned both of these Panavision films are represented on their new DVD releases in a grainy cropped and chopped format!

Ted

Sorry for the unpleasant news.

Burnout?

I can't believe nobody has expressed any interest in these two titles being released P&S! I love these movies and they should be presented in their OAR!

Proof of the average age at DVDTalk. Or possibly of the opinion of classics attempted to be put on film.

I've only seen Sawyer and it just isn't something I'm going to buy. Maybe burnout is correct. I already have the books, better anyway.

These are some of the many, many MGM titles getting lost in the shuffle as Sony tries to take over the assets of the former label. Sony's press site lists the format of Tom Sawyer as being "Fullscreen (2.35)."

In reality, these were probably in the pipeline long before MGM passed to Sony, so it was MGM that made the decision to go P&S. They're family titles, don't you know.

But back to the merger, I called Sony PR the other day to ask about some MGM titles and was met with indifference, ignorance and confusion. And exhaustion. It's a huge job to assume MGM and the few people charged with doing it sound overwhelmed, which they were even before the merger. And that was before some of them left the company.

Just yesterday on the back of the Ghostbusters set it says 1.33 fullscreen for the first movie then up higher it says it's widescreen which it is.

I swear film studios don't have editors for their dvd packaging or they are complete idiots that don't know anything about aspect ratios.... if so they should find a new job maybe panhandling

The back of the actual DVD clearly notes that the movie is just "FULL SCREEN." The odd notation at the PR site is just a gaffe, but indicative of the chaos at Sony--uh, MGM; uh, Sony/MGM.
