Why was it cancelled originally? I had heard back then that it was because of him being gay, but it seems like low viewership (is that a word?) would be more likely.

It was on Thursday nights, I believe. Up against Cosby on one end and 90210 on the other. I think it got killed in the ratings.

From what I remember it was cancelled because it cost too much to make. The suits were really expensive too.

I watched this when it was on. I had such a crush on Amanda Pays. Remember Mark Hamill came on later in the run to play a villian? Mark was a big fan of the comic book and wanted to play this villian.

I thought it was on Wednesday nights, but it was 15 years ago, so I could be wrong.

I too had a huge crush on Amanda Payne, wasn't she just playing the same character as she did on Max Hedroom essentially?

I also remember reading that the main reason they cancelled it was due to the high cost per episode (and it wasn't doing too well ratings-wise up against the Cosby show). I remember they replaced it with some COPS-type show, that was probably pretty cheap to produce, so the cost excuse may have been true.

That cost thing sounds about right to me. I think the show that replaced it was "Real Stories of the Highway Patrol" which was a re-enactment show along the lines of Rescue 911

Awesome! I remember the episode with the blue flash. Might have to see if I can scrounge something up to buy the series.

Would this be worth a blind buy?

It's definitely one of the best super hero series, IMHO. I wouldn't hesitate...but I love that kind of show.

In response to the two messages above...if John Wesley Shipp is "gay" and it was known at the time, it was never reported in any of the film fan magazines during that period. Obviously that would not have killed the show.

The actress's name is Amanda Pays, not "Payne" for what it's worth.

I would say easily one of the best live action super hero series.
I remember I used to watch reruns of this like 8 years ago. It ran at like 1AM right after the cnet shows. That was during my sleep 3-4 hours a night phase.

Any reviews since it's out now? I hear the quality may be lacking, but I'd like confirmation before I plop down the $$$ for it.
