I honestly hope that the cover doesn't mean that they are putting the colorized episodes on the set. The first season was B&W and the episodes will not be in my collection if they are colorized.

They colorized them fairly recently so i'm sure thats what they will push. Hope they put out both. This is one of my favorites.

They'll likely release seperate B/W and colorized sets of this first season like they did with "Bewitched" so everyone is happy. "Jeannie" was shot in color starting in the second year, so a dual release situation would only affect the first year.

Even if they were in color and the only way to get them, I would just have removed the color manually from the tv itself. Presto: B&W But if the new colorization is anything like Mark of Zorro w/Tyrone Power, its beautiful.

No, that is not the case. The gray scales are compromised that way, it doesn't simply return it to the original look by draining the color off with the remote.

For example, if you drew a pencil drawing with many shades of light and dark, then colored it with crayons, and finally took a black and white picture of the result, it wouldn't look like the original drawing, but rather a muddy mess.

TV Shows on DVD is now reporting that the first season of "Jeannie" is indeed being released in BOTH B/W AND COLOR versions, so everyone can get what they want.

I hope they release the entire series quickly.

Glad to hear the original B&W will be released also. I prefer watching them as originally broadcast. I own Seasons 1 and 2 of "Bewitched" in the original black and white already, which are also on the Sony label.

Oh, by the way, glad to meet everyone... I'm new here, this is my first post.

[pedant]They are using the wrong bottle for the first season. First season just had fancy gold leaf designs.[/pedant]

It's it's anything like how they colorized the cover of the DVD, it sucks!

Of course, the Jeannie bottles were all just empty bottles of Jim Beam's Choice scotch whiskey (1964 version) which were painted by the prop dept. It seems that they grabbed a new one each season and painted it differently, with the biggest changes being from the first year to the second (making it so colorful for the switch from B&W to Color production). You can often find the actual whiskey bottles for sale on eBay, although I've never seen one in as perfect a condition as this speciman that's up for auction now (I know we're not supposed to link to eBay auctions, but if you want to find this look up "Beam's Choice Jeannie"; there are currently 7 days left):

I picked one up a couple years ago and did quite a bit of research on them. It's always amazing that whatever interest one has, there are people obsessed with it and they even have a mortal enemy. Some guy Mario advertises on Ebay as having the only "authorized" versions. Turns out his are brass copies (slightly smaller than the real glass Beam bottles) and he only has the license for the cartoon version from the credits. Not even Sony has the license for the actual bottle - they're Jim Beam bottles. The Jeannie Bottle community is obsessed with him and he sometimes disguises himself and raves his stuff until his IP address gets him busted. Kind of funny, really. Oh, yeah...ALLEGEDLY.

The way to tell if it's one of the real bottles is to look inside and see if there's any furniture.
