The only reason I could think of to spend more money on the 3-disc version is if you are a "completist". In my DVD youth (a couple of years ago), I would've felt compelled to buy it just because it was the top-of-the-line version. However, my shelf is filled with these Super Deluxe editions of which I only watch the movie.
Since the 2-disc and 3-disc of Wizard have the same transfer, that's good enough for me to save $20. As far as the extras go:
Souveiner Program, Pamphlets, etc. - These will just sit in the case, so why bother?
4 earlier Wizard movies - There's a reason you never heard of them before
Baum documentary - possibly interesting - I'll rent it from Netflix

Don't get me wrong, if you want the 3-disc set, get it. I just can't justify it.

Keep in mind too that it's not just that 3rd disc, you also get all that other stuff and a potentially higher quality box. I'll wait on my decision until tomorrow though, but more than likely I'll get the 2 disc for $12.99.

Previous DVD:
New CE edition:
The new picture is cropped on all four sides, actually.
P.S.: These two screen caps are slightly different and taken from slightly different angles of the same scene during a left-to-right tracking shot, which means that if you copy them side-by-side, say in Word, while reducing them to the same size, you can "cold-view" them as a single 3-D picture, by just crossing your eyes until a third 3-D picture appears in the middle of the other two pictures. It takes a little pratice but it's well worth the effort. Just make sure that the older (first) picture is on the left and the newer (second) picture is on the right.

I'm totally confused. Why are half the pictures on that comparison page different sizes? You can't compare one picture to another when one is magnified. And many seem to be slightly different frames as well.

It's been covered. And that's a bit pricier than I would want it to be. That's only basing it on the fact that the 2 disc set is 14.99, 12.99 if you're a rewards zone member. Too bad being a rewards zone member doesn't get you a cheaper price on the set that's more appealing. But then again, you have other things besides just one additional disc in the set. Twenty bucks is a lot of extra money for everything else considering the full two disc set isn't even that much.
But you know what? I'm biting. There's a lot of features included here that wasn't on that green box set I already have from before with the one disc-er inside. Especially the old Oz films made before this one. If this were another movie, I'd probably pass. But a film like The Wizard Of Oz is a classic and for a definitive set like this to come along is just terrific. This movie is deserving of your money. Spend your money how you want of course. No need to debate about it, that's why they've made a choice. You can still have the film and still have more than just a single disc set, or you can spring for even more cash to get this 3 disc set. I like how they at least respect the consumer enough with this film, to give us a choice instead of just flat out robbing us.

I picked up the 3 disc...very impressed so far. And the added stuff in the set, like the photos and pamphlets are really high quality and pretty awesome. The "fake" invitation and ticket to the premiere were a real nice touch. An excellent set and IMO well worth the extra cash over the 2 discer.
