Also, though it hasn't technically officially been announced yet, if you purchase the awesome new 2-disc Toy Story: 10th Anniversary Edition (watch for a review soon), you'll find an insert in the packaging that reveals that Disney will release a 2-disc Toy Story 2: Special Edition on 12/26, also with ultra-high video bitrate, and both Dolby Digital and DTS audio. We expect to have more details soon on both titles.

On the Toy Story, is it going to still have the Oscar winning animated short "Tin Toy"? Also on Toy Story 2, is it going to have the Oscar nominated animated short "Luxo Jr"? If they don't, I'll keep my single disks sets as well.

Looks like I'm going to buy both, even though I own the UTB. Upgrade in A/V is a must when I use the disc to demo my HT so much.

In an article for Variety and Video Business, Scott Hettrick reports today about Disney's hopes to capitalize on "the great gift card effect" with its December 26th DVD releases of Toy Story 2: Special Edition and Touchstone's Dark Water. The 2-disc Boxing Day re-release of Pixar's blockbuster 1999 sequel will contain a mix of new bonus features and material included on previous releases including new deleted scenes, outtakes, multiple featurettes, and a game. Much like next week's Toy Story: 10th Anniversary Edition DVD, it is also expected to employ a higher digital bitrate and a DTS track.

Do you really think that many people with gift cards will buy it vs. those that may buy multiple copies to give out as easy gifts? I guess we will see. To me a DVD is a perfect price range for a quick and easy gift. And like someone said it will be there on the 26th if they released it earlier. I think the 20th would be a better day as it will be fresh in the minds of last minute shoppers and those returning gifts on the 26th.

In TOY STORY 2, the toys are left on their own when their owner, Andy, heads off to Cowboy Camp. Just as Woody rescues Wheezy, the asthmatic squeeze-toy penguin, from a yard sale, he is stolen by a greedy toy collector, Al McWhiggin, the owner of Al's Toy Barn. Al takes him to his apartment where Woody discovers that he is no ordinary toy, but a rare collectible from a 1950's television show called "Woody's Roundup." Woody learns he isn't the only prized toy from the show as he meets the rest of the Roundup Gang - Jessie the cowgirl, Stinky Pete the prospector, and Woody's own trusty steed, Bullseye.
Woody learns that the Roundup Gang has been in storage for years as Al has hunted for a Woody doll to complete his collection so he can sell it to a Japanese toy museum where Woody and the gang will be displayed behind glass forever.
Back across town, Buzz Lightyear leads a daring rescue team of Hamm, Slinky Dog, Rex and Mr. Potato Head, to free Woody and remind him what being a toy is all about.
Ultimately, Woody must choose between going with his new friends, the Roundup Gang, with their chance at being admired forever in a museum, and his old friends, Andy's toys, to lead the short, but fun-filled life of a toy. This hilarious comedy classic raises the bar on family entertainment to infinity and beyond!

The 10-Year Anniversary re-release of Toy Story 1 earlier this year had an all-new commentary from the filmmakers. Unless the commentary on this Toy Story 2 re-release just happens to have the exact same contributors as the one in the Ultimate Toy Box, it looks they didn't give this edition a new commentary, which is unfortunate. The commentaries are probably my favorite parts of the UTB... I've probably listened to them more than the movie's regular audio.
