Best and Worst Blind Buy
I am sorry if this has been posted elsewhere, but thought it might be interesting to see what everyone considers to be their best and worst blind buy so far.
Best:
Garden State
Worst:
Dungeons and Dragons

Yep, already been through this but in 2 separate threads:
Best blind buy
Worst blind buy
Interesting that the "Worst" thread was the bigger of the two.

I think my best was Happiness. I ordered it suspecting it was an animated movie based solely on the cover art, and I got it pretty early in the DVD game, when there wasn't much to choose from, and I was looking for off beat, indy titles to buy and I came across that one on amazon.com through some kind of listmania thing based on one of my searches (which was for an animated movie, so when I saw the cartoon cover art, I just drew a conclusion).
When I got the movie and realized it was live action, I was not disappointed, but I was surprised with the treasure I had found entirely on a whim. It not only opened me to the world of Todd Solondz, but also introduced me to other great indy movies.
My worst? It has to be Godzilla, the Matthew Broderick edition. I thought it could not be as bad as I was hearing, and picked it up as a blind buy anyway. I was so horribly mistaken.

Best: Kill Bill vols. 1 & 2 (I love Tarantino, so I wasn't taking much of chance here)
Worst: Under the Tuscan Sun (Not the worst movie I've ever seen- but at 4 bucks I was still asking myself what I was thinking when I got it)

Best: Star Trek - The Motion Picture
This was probably the only Trek film I hadn't seen for whatever reason. I knew a lot of people didn't like it, but I bought it and absolutely loved it. I think it's probably as close to "true" sci-fi as Star Trek has come. It's really a fascinating movie and my disc gets played a lot.
Worst: Suspiria
Ugh. I heard nothing but good about this film and was taken aback to see it promptly featured in the Best Buy ad the week it came out. I bought it and thought it was just awful. Subsequent viewings only faired mildly better. I still own the disc (it's a pretty film to look at at the very least), but this is one movie that hasn't come close to growing on me in the almost four years since the disc's release. It's a little bizarre because if you look at my list you'll see that I'm into this kind of crap... but this one was just bad.

Best. A bunch of TV shows, I went from watching almost zero TV to being a TV on DVD junkie. Never watched one episode of Buffy, Angel, X-files, Wonderfalls or Firefly, now I love all of them.
Worst. Can't think of one.

Best: Drop Dead Fred. On the surface, a very funny slapstick comedy. At a deeper level, a very serious psychological drama about a woman who is trying to take control of her life.
Worst: The Searchers. I found this "classic" to be boring. But the photography was beautiful.

Best is probably Harold and Kumar go to White Castle. Not that its the best movie I own, but I couldnt imagine this being remotely good at first, but everyone said to give it a shot and I found it to be pretty funny and enjoyable. Worst would be Maria Full of Grace. Again, I dont totally hate it, but I thought it was going to be a lot better than it was and just left me kind of meh on the movie.

About 75% of my collection have been blind buys and there have been very few disapointments. I carefully research everything before I buy and am rarely disapointed. There have been a few that didn't live up to their hype but the only thing that has been flat out bad has been Attack of the Clones (so bad I couldn't finish it). Someday I will give it another try. I have found countless treasures, but my favorite has to be Band of Brothers.

Worst: Panic Room. Not a particularly bad movie, but it would've been a better rental. I don't see it having any value for repeated viewing. Fortunately, at $6.88CAN for the superbit version, it didn't cost much more than a rental.
