Star Trek Nemesis CE - Oct 4th

From the bits...

And for you Star Trek fans, look for the 2-disc Star Trek: Nemesis - Special Collector's Edition on 10/4. As many of you know, Star Trek: Enterprise - The Complete Second Season is currently due on 7/26. Star Trek: Enterprise - The Complete Third Season is officially slated for 9/20 (that's confirmed). Rounding out the series' release, Star Trek: Enterprise - The Complete Fourth Season should arrive on 11/1. Also... and this is something of a surprise... our sources are currently telling us that Star Trek: The Complete Animated Series is tentatively planned for DVD release in September (on 9/6). There will also be a new Star Trek: The Motion Pictures DVD Collection box set on 10/4, along with a 4-season Star Trek: Enterprise - The Complete Series set on 11/1.

The fact that it's coming out this soon after Insurrection makes me think it's probably not. Maybe I'm wrong and they've been secretly working on it already, but so far all of our hopes for re-edited Trek films have been dashed (except for TMP), and I have little hope for Nemesis.

And for you Star Trek fans ...
Anyone who likes Nemesis isn't a Star Trek fan.

das

P.S. For the slow ones in the crowd, that's a joke -- I say a joke, son.

I can only hope that the SE for Nemesis includes all of the much baleyhooed cut scenes hopefully reintergrated into the film.

As a late-comer to DVD, I didn't have to worry about double-dips on most of the Trek films, so I happily bought the two-disc editions of I, II, IV, VI, Generations, First Contact and Insurrection.

But Nemesis was among my first DVD buys, and why I got a player. I doubt I'll double-dip on it. Sure, the extras are nice, but the main draw to the older movies was to get a better transfer. I don't see how Nemesis could get any better in that department.

All I need is a DTS track and the trailer with the cool "Planet of the Apes" music and I'll be a happy camper.

I'll definitely be picking that up too. I've avoided buying any of the ST movies in anticipation of this.

I certainly hope all those deleted scenes are included. Much of the talk makes it sound like all the stuff that was deleted was what would of made it more of a Trek movie (meaning more character-driven scenes).

Is this a box of all ten films, or TNG films? I've already picked up a box set for the original crew films, so I'm hoping for one with just TNG too.

Can we really count TWOK though? It was the TV Edit we'd all seen a 100 times on ABC.

Judging by what the current one is, it should be all of them. I hope because this is the set I want to get but with the CE of all of them.

Now that they're done, they should really go back and let Shatner "fix" Trek V. Paramount is going to be a situation by the end of the year with no new ST material to release... I wonder what they're going to do to get more of my $$$$?

Seriously, what do they plan to do in 2006 and beyond? Everything (movies, shows, and possibly even the animated show) will now be released by the end of '05 in really solid editions. Doesn't seem like there's much opportunity to put anything else out.

I would not be surprised at all if Paramount now let directors have their whims with new cuts of the movies now. That might be why they held off for the time being.

Also, Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country was slightly re-edited (a few inserts were added to the mind meld scene) for it's DVD release as well.

There were some minor changes to II & VI (although VI was actually changed for the video release), but I was thinking more along the lines of Director's Cuts of Trek movies that most people believe have significant room for improvement. I remember before Star Trek V came out, there was a rumor that William Shatner wanted to do a Director's Cut of it but he was shot down by Paramount. I also seem to remember some people speculating that maybe Insurrection would have a Director's Cut. So far though, they only Trek movie to get a significant overhaul was the first one.

Hopefully they will speed up releases of Cheers, Frasier, Andy Griffith, Hogan's Heroes, Taxi, Happy Days, Laverne and Shirley, Mork and Mindy & The Brady Bunch. And get to other stuff like Family Ties, Gomer Pyle, & Bosom Buddies.
