Some DS9 telemovies would rock.

Best. Trek. Ever.

Oh yeah, forgot about those.

Speaking of VI, where is the footage of Spock and Valeris gettin' it on? I remember right before that movie came out, all of the movie mags were leaking the Valeris/Spock love story as being one of the "worst kept secrets in Trek history". Yet in every version it's merely hinted at, and very subtly. Was it a case of studio disinformation, or was that plotline actually filmed?

When it comes to Star Trek, Paramount has been very hard on its fans- by overpricing the TV box sets, because they know that the fans will pay whatever they have to to own them...at the same time, I find it odd that the original Trek DVDs of all the films were quite expensive, but these new 2 disc versions are almost 'bargin bin' prices.

DS9 was really the only Trek for me, but as much as I love it, the DVDs are impossible to get, because I can't see paying with taxes nearly $200 per season, or $100 used.

THAT could make an excellent film- reunite the DS9 crew to aid in Sisko's return from the celestial temple, or something. With DS9 they could go in any direction in terms of a film- a drama, a war film, even a straight comedy. That's what you get with such multi-layered, 'real' characters...endless possibilities, and not the stale 'bad guy wants to destroy earth and Picard must stop it' story..

Paramount had a complete overhaul of their DVD pricing structure in the time between the original releases and the SEs. Their discs used to be by far the most expensive of any studio, with movie-only single-disc DVDs priced at $29.99. They eventually re-evaluated the market and brought their prices down in line with other studios.

While the edit of the film was the same as the TV cut, they had to recreate it from the original film elements because the TV version was originally assembled on video and only in pan & scan.

Actually, FOX topped Paramount back in the day with a $34.99 retail price of barebone non-anamorphic releases. I'm glad those days are over...

Is it odd I'm more stoked about the Animated series than I am Enterprise?

As for Wrath of Kahn, for someone who grew up watching a version TWOK that was recorded off ABC, averaging a viewing a month if not more, the DVD edit came as a brutal surprise when it was purchased those years ago. I realize the changes are minor, but they totally altered the flow for me.

The TMP re-edit was very nice, though I felt the original was a decent flick. Insurrection would need a massive re-do IMHO, and I haven't bothered with Nemesis. If you knew my history as a Trekkie, that's tantamount to heresy for me. I just can't bring myself to do it.

Anyways, bring on the Animated Series!

Where are you shopping for them? Amazon.com, for one example, still has the season sets priced around 100.00. Or you can snag all seven seasons for 639.95, a mere 91.00 per DVD. A better deal may even be found at Deep Discount DVD if you wait for their legendary 20% off sales.

I agree - where have you been shopping ! I would love these sets two and am not going to pay $100/season, and I have been waiting a long time for prices to go down - but NOoooo !

You can do the Barnes and Noble 3 for 2 sale - either online or in-store (which can amount to around $78 or less a piece depending upon if there are any coupons or you have a BN card). I am tempted to do this myself - if you have a 10% off coupon and BN card (another 10% off) and go in-store the price is about a little over $60/season, if my math is correct.

Paramount's Trek sets priced the way they were when they were brand new is one thing, but what gets me about them is that other studios tend to lower their prices on the sets after the entire seasons are released, and will often offer really good deals if you buy all the seasons together. Heck, even Fox lowered the prices on X-Files now that they are all out (even sold them for 49.99 each at Best Buy recently!) but I think the online prices for most of the Trek sets went UP since they were all out.

Yep, that's what gets me as well. I think Amazon's price for TNG sets are now around $112 with Season 5 going for $126. But they've got the whole series for $584 which is just $83.43 per season.

Currently DDD has S1 of ENT for ~$91 while they've got S2 for $96. Now that doesn't make sense.

Note his location--Toronto. So he was probably quoting prices in Canadian dollars.

No. I'm pumped for TAS because I haven't seen it on television in years. I couldn't care less about Nemesis (just came in here to see if they were including the deleted scenes) nor Enterprise releases.

Hopefully, these sources are correct for TAS release.

That's right. Future Shop (which is now more or less the same as Best Buy) has DS9 for $162.99 each or so.

If they were priced the same as other TV DVD releases ($50-$70 like most)
then I would have gotten them all.

But, like I said, Paramount knows that Trek fans will pay just about anything (if some people collect Trek merchandise for most of their lives, obviously paying top dollar to preserve the most important aspect of it all- the shows themselves in the best possible way, won't deter them) Therefore, I wouldn't expect any of the series prices to come down.

Please note, I don't think it's the least bit strange for people to spend a lifetime collecting these things, because if it makes them happy- who the hell am I to find fault in that? It's harmless fun, and life can be anything but sometimes. If you got the cash, use it!

I bought DS9 as each season was released for about $120CAD at Future Shop/Best Buy. I'm surprised that they've jacked up in price so much since then.

I'll double-dip for Nemesis if it has a DTS track and a better commentary track. That long battle scene is pretty nifty but Stuart Baird's track is zzzz......

The Nemesis commentary track was one of the few tracks that literally put me to sleep (and I've listened to hundreds of them). Still, it was at least somewhat informative, as I recall.

As for the movie: as a non-Trekkie, but as someone who enjoys the movies, I didn't hate this like other people did. However, after subsequent viewings, it does get more ridiculous. Still, if I bought Star Trek V and Insurrection, I'm sure as hell buying this. A longer cut would be great, but I wouldn't hold out hope.

From The Digital Bits:

"Paramount has finally unveiled the Star Trek: Nemesis - Special Collector's Edition for release on 10/4. The 2-disc set rounds out the studio's special edition treatment of the Trek films on DVD. Extras are still to be announced, but are expected to include all-new interviews with the cast and crew, deleted scenes and 9 behind-the-scenes featurettes. Also as reported in The Rumor Mill, Paramount's announced an updated Star Trek: The Motion Pictures Collection box set that we assume will include the 2-disc SCEs of all the feature films (a similar box set was released back in 2003 with the single-disc versions of all the films). Look for that on 10/4 as well (SRP is TBA)."

They also have cover art there.

I assume this new box set will just be all the SE's together in one package without any new material.
I hope so because I've already bought the original crew SE box set and have been buying the next generation SE's as they come out.

Paramount has kindly sent over official artwork for Star Trek: The Motion Picture DVD Collection, which includes all ten collector's edition releases. The set will be available to own from the 4th October this year. The retail price has yet to be confirmed. I'm afraid we have no further details on this one at the moment, although we're not expecting any additional material to be included as part of the package. If that changes though, we will of course let you know. For now though, here's our first look at the artwork:

I hope they release a set of just 7-10, since I've also already purchased the original crew box set.

Could care less about Nemesis. The current release will do fine.

However another vote for a DS9 made for TV movie or direct to DVD release.
