I was 10 when it came out and thought it was pretty cool, but Dirty Dancing has not held up. I saw it in college when it was released on dvd after the 10th anniversary theatrical release and couldn't believe it. I'm glad I never made it to the cinema to see it. Luckily The Goonies has held up. I agree with the Eddie Murphy Raw. Delerious is way better.

I think it's pretty fair to say that nearly EVERY film dates within a few years or so, especially futurustic sci fi films and not just 70s ones.
Modern ones date even quicker with advances in technology even faster these days.
Film directors are probably the worst at envisaging the future.
No matter what the genre they will nearly ALWAYS have a feel of the era they were made and THAT's what dates them more than anything.

See, I don't get this "Omega Man" stuff at all. It's pretty much the perfect example of a movie that's *not* dated.
Time and progress essentially stop in the 70's. And that's exactly what you see on the screen.

When Red Dragon was announced I thought why in the hell are they redoing it? I liked Mann's Manhunter. I hadn't seen it since the theatre so I rented the DVD and was shocked by how dated it had become. From the synthersizer based score to the wardrobe it screamed 80's, and not in a good way.

You forgot to finish that line. It should have "without adding a few of my own" tacked on at the end.
And to stay on topic, my nomination goes to Star Wars. Looking at the tech we have now, one has to ask the question "why don't they have a more sophisticated method of transmitting information?" Seriously, if this movie was made today, everyone and their brother would be hosting a "how to build your own Death Star" website.
Yes, yes, don't bring up that "a long time ago" stuff. They have laser weapons, they have star fighters, they can construct an artificial planet, they can travel at speeds faster than light. Is it too much to expect them to have e-mail?

16 Candles is pretty dated.

The prize was a bunch of floppy discs.. and they were kind-of expensive
