Hence the problem. Why would they devote an entire subtitle track to three words that appear within the first ten seconds of the film? Why would they only offer one English subtitle option (one that includes only closed captioned titles, including notations for every time a punch is landed, music starts to play...all the way down to what sex and even what language the person is speaking)? And if they did intend to do this, why would the back cover of the release (as well as Fox's response to an email complaint) boast notations for both Standard English Subtitles along with English Closed Captioning?

There's most definitely a problem with this release's subtitles.

EDIT: Okay, so there's problems with the film's presentation. I only meant that there's nothing defective with the DVD's subtitle tracks.
I didn't think there was anything on that third track so that was news to me, but JP is right, why have a third track with practically no subtitles as an option? I guess we all have the special "Nong Pradu Village" invisible english subtitled editions. It bothers me that nobody has even mentioned this in any DVD reviews for the movie. Maybe that's where we need to start "rattling cages".

Well, according to http://www.dvdcompare.net/ the R-0 Australian Version is the best one to own --- unfortunately, it is a PAL version! Anybody know how to make PAL work on an NTSC DVD Player and TV?

There is an R-2 version scheduled for release on September 15th - you can check it out on Amazon.co.uk - it sounds like a better version than the R-1 version.

You have to buy a region free player or hack one you purchase at your local store. Check out and search the International forum. All the info. you need is there.

Still no response to the email I sent out a few days ago. I've sent it again.

Personally, I was entertained by the unnecessary subtitles. I just laugh when I see "[inaudible]" on the screen.

OK,

After sending in another complaint about the subtitling issues, the same response was forwarded back to me. Going back to the website revealed a different design and I was able to find a complaint phone number to call. I placed my call and explained the problem and the rep proceeded to read me the verbatim response she e-mailed me. I told her I have complained recently and oddly, she knew about the complaint by me and even knew when I complained and who I was. I couldn't be the only one that complained about this? She explained to me that she forward the e-mail to the productions department where they check on these issues and then they get back to her, and she received no response from them after my first complaint.

I'm urging anyone who wants to get a replacement for this DVD to please call the fox number and help me to get the ball rolling on this to get what we paid for, a decent english subtitle track on the release of Ong Bak. Please call the fox consumer hotline at 1-888-223-2FOX from 8-5 PST and let them know that the disc has a problem. It wouldn't hurt to send them e-mails either at [email protected] because I know people forwarded my comments to her through there. If a lot of people are vocal about this, I'm sure we can get this fixed.

Thanks,
Randy

Emailed to Fox as of this morning. This type of stuff is inexcusable.
Good morning,

I am writing to you to inform you of a problem with the "Ong-Bak: The Thai Warrior" DVD. One of the subtitle tracks (the third, which is supposed to be 'Standard English Subtitles') does NOT work at all. I have tried it on three separate DVD players (Panasonic, Denon, Yamaha) and all do not play any English subtitles, just the English Closed-Captioned track and the Spanish subtitles.

Please contact me as soon as possible about this issue, as it is not only with my disc, but many other people's DVDs. It is inexcusable and unwatchable to see the film in English Closed-Captioned. Thank you for your time.

Regards,
Xxxxx Xxxxxx

My email to them is posted on page two (post number 48). In it, I specifically state that I've tried using the subtitle button on my remote, as well as the set-up menu...and that other people are having the same problem with their DVD. The response I got: identical to the cookie-cutter responses everybody else has been getting. I then wrote them back expressing zero appreciation for the way they've blown off my legitimate complaint. No response. I'll start my series of phone calls tomorrow.

I lied...I just called them before posting this reply. The lady was actually rather helpful (and answered the call directly on only the second ring...eerie). She mentioned the bit about using the menu, and I explained that I'd already done that, as have the numerous other people on the internet who are complaining about having the same problem with no response from Fox. She said that she'd forward my complaint along, and to call back near the end of the week.

I received the same cookie-cutter response as well. I replied back immediately explaining what is going on and that the track is not there.

Bump. Anybody ever hear back, or did you all give up after being given a week-long run around too?
