Really how hard is it to dump tv shows to dvd ?

Can't cost much to author at all and even the most obscure shows will make money with more popular shows deserving the special edition type treatment

Original Desmond 06-06-05 02:41 AM

What they need to do is for all the Peter Engel 'beautiful teens' tv shows (saved by the bell, the new class, California Dreams, Malibu etc is just compile all of the scenes with the hot babes focusing on the bikinis and skimpy outfits and release that on dvd complete with a box of tissues

mtmagpie 06-06-05 02:44 AM

Need these!

I would love to see complete episode releases of the major wrestling shows including:

ECW
WCW Nitro
WWF/WWE Raw and Smackdown

How coll would it be to watch these episodes again? You could move from Doink and Papa Shango to Chris Benoit and John Cena with ease. Surely, Vinnie Mac could find a way to get this done...

SuprVgeta 06-06-05 04:59 AM

Exo-Squad.

dougb222 06-06-05 09:20 AM

Mission Impossible
The Untouchables
Alias Smith and Jones
Newhart (the later series with Larry, Darrell & Darrel etc.)

Also, any ABC Movie of the Week installments from the '70s. I think The Night Stalker/The Night Strangler are about all we're going to get out of those (though there are probably others of which I'm ignorant).

I'd love to see a "Movie of the Week" series (similar to MGM's Midnite Movies").

It seems like these films occasionally get a stealth release. What we should do is compile a list of these movies, and keep track of when they get released. I thought that THE NIGHT EVELYN CAME OUT OF THE GRAVE and HOW AWFUL ABOUT ALLAN were MotW films... and they are available on DVD.

DUEL and TRILOGY OF TERROR are two more that are out too.

Also, there are some good non-ABC films like GARGOYLES, which too is on disc.

lisadoris 06-06-05 02:02 PM

I just realized, I forgot to put Daria on my list of shows.

SteveJKo 06-06-05 02:20 PM

One series that should be out on DVD and still is not is THE INVADERS from 1967.

printerati 06-06-05 03:14 PM

I would also like Tales Of The Gold Monkey, as well as:

- Automan
- Probe
- Q.E.D.
- Saturday Supercade
- Turkey Television

Skoobooz 06-06-05 06:39 PM

Maybe I missed something, but why won't Daria ever come to DVD? Was it because of the poor sales for Is It College Yet? That seems to be a poor indicator...but maybe not. What do I know? I'm no studio executive.

I'd like to add Wings. If the past success of Monk and Tony Shaloub, and Sideways and Thomas Hayden Church haven't spurred a release, then screw it...we'll have to wait for Tim Daly to win Best Actor until that show comes to DVD.

andicus 06-06-05 11:03 PM

Oooh... I just thought of a pretty obscure one:

Wait 'Til Your Father Gets Home. ('72-'74)

I'd guess that the odds on this one being released are quite low! Too bad.

RyanPC 06-06-05 11:06 PM

Anyone remember the All in the Family spinoff "Gloria"? I doubt that'll ever come to DVD.

Kimiakane 06-06-05 11:47 PM

You all probably know this already, but there is a website that is actually frequently viewed by the various companies whom produce DVDs of TV material. It is operated by TV Historian GORD LACEY who is often interviewed and quoted in trade magazines and even publications like TV GUIDE and ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY, etc.

The website is TVShowsOnDVD.com and when you go there, create an account. You can then spend a great deal of time going through all American and many British/Australian (and other English language programming) TV shows, specials & mini-series from the dawn of TV broadcasting to the present. You can vote for any and all shows you would like to see on DVD and even see how many others have voted for the same shows you did as well!

I highly recommend everyone here to go there and help each other fulfill our dreams to own our favorite obscure shows! :)

I'm sure it is incredibly easy but fear of low sales is probably the main reason, followed by the often reported difficulties of licensing music and or characters. :(

How hard is it? Well, I think for the shows that were shot on film they have to do transfers just like they do with movies, and that costs money. I guess if quality is not an issue they may have some way of easily converting them, but consumers are discerning and won't just take anything that's offered (even though it may seem like that sometimes :)).

Space Above and Beyond

Not sure if the rest of you saw this yet, but the Space Above and Beyond people are wrong, cause it's supposed to be coming this year according to the Digital Bits...

MSN ran an article with their most wanted shows:

Freakazoid
Tiny Toon Adventures
Maxx cartoon
The Head cartoon

Legolas 10-03-05 11:44 AM

Soap operas would never make it onto DVD. How would they even do it? General Hospital: April, 1994? Who would even find replay value in them?

dvd_buyer 10-03-05 11:45 AM

Hilarious House of Frankenstein.

Two words: Cop Rock
Oh, I'd totally buy this if it was out.

Speaking of Bochco, where is Hill Street Blues? I wouldn't be surprised to see it eventually, but I'd bet money that the spinoff Beverly Hills Buntz will never see the light of day on DVD...
