MAVERICK is the show the Mel Gibson movie was based on. Starred James Garner and Jack Kelly as brothers Brett and Bart(?) Maverick. Con men/gamblers/hustlers out to make a fast buck in the old west. Roger Moore was cousin Beau Maverick from England. Garner sued WB for money owed him from the show's profits and won. He later sued Universal for money owed him from Rockford Files profits and won. I'm sure Garner would agree to let them be released for a piece of the dvd sales but will either studio feel it is worth their while to release them after giving up a piece of the pie.
WKRP is loaded with songs by Springsteen, Eagles, Fleetwood, Rolling Stones and others. After paying for all the music rights might get released at $1000 a season set.
There is a ownership dispute between Viacom/Paramount and the widow of Leonard Goldberg, the creator/producer of Hawaii Five-O. Paramount probably owns the episodes, but she owns the name "Hawaii Five-O".
BATMAN is a legal mess. Fox owns the show, WB owns Batman, and everybody who worked on the show copyrighted their work and would have to agree to some kind of settlement. The guy who wrote the theme song, the cosyume designer copyrighted all the costumes including THAT particular version of the Batman suit, and the biggest one is the batmobile. When VHS came along video rights were more or less grandfathered in. DVD is a whole new ballgame. Unless you own a property 100% free and clear somebody will pop up claiming, "Hey wait a minute, I never agreed you could use such and such for dvd release". Even if it was 40-50 years ago. I believe the courts have decided there is a difference between analog and digital rights.

None of the MASH spinoffs will see the light of day:

AfterMASH
Trapper John, MD (well, maybe)
W*A*L*T*E*R - which starred Gary Burghoff as Radar's state-side adventures

Lots of great shows listed in this thread so far!!

I wouldn't be so quick to write many of these off yet. I look on the new release list every week and I am constantly surprised by (insert favorite TV show) coming out on DVD!
Anyways, here is my list:

Space Above and Beyond
Tales of the Gold Monkey
Six Million Dollar Man

and last but certainly not least....

Seven Days!!!

Take care all!!

Do you mean GvE or Good vs Evil as it was known on USA)? Man I loved that show and it probably won't ever come out on DVD.
I want SAAB and Seaquest as well but I'm not holding my breath. If they can release Profit on DVD then I want Strange Luck. I'd also love to have Frank's Place on DVD but I seriously think pigs will fly first. I have no idea what the holdup is on Tiny Toons, Animaniacs, or Pinky & the Brain so I'm beginning to lose hope on those as well.

Originally a copyright was 27 years. After that it would expire if not renewed every 27 years. In 1987 the copyright act was amended so that a copyright lasted the life of the author(owner) plus 100 years. In 2000 Congress passed the Digital Millilieum Copyright Act(I think it's called) which provided extra protection to digital property. Under the copyright act you can make one copy of anything for your personal use. No difference between recording a movie off pay-per-view or renting the tape and making a copy. No difference between copying a tape and making a Xerox of a newspaper article. There was no special provision for audio/video, all media was treated the same. Now, with the 2000 act pertaining to digital copying, you can make one digital copy(back up) of a digital property if YOU ALREADY OWN AN ORIGINAL. No borrowing/renting and making a copy.

I personally think "Cold Case" has very little chance of seeing the light of day on DVD anytime soon. The amount of music used to tell stories from the different time periods would cause major issues. I heard they have a $20,000 budget for music per episode. If this does get released I think it will be a $100 retail set like "American Dreams" and "La Femme Nikita" Anyone agree?

"Reasonable Doubts" a very good show with Marlee Matlin and Mark Harmon from 1991. Ran on NBC for like 1 season. She played a deaf DA and Harmon was a cop that helped her with cases. Good stuff.....not gonna see it.

Drexl 06-02-05 07:08 AM

I was thinking "Manimal" too, but I actually wouldn't be surprised to see that get released someday. People do remember it, even if just to make fun of it. It also got some exposure when David Letterman talked about it. It wasn't just another show like a sitcom or drama-it had an odd premise that even people who haven't heard of it might be interested in for the camp value. It was only 8 episodes, so it's not like the studio would be committing to multiple seasons with lots of episodes to transfer. It would just be one release on two or three discs.

Now, something forgotten like "Roomies" with Corey Haim, that would surprise me.

MovieExchange 06-02-05 07:43 AM

Wow, pretty much everything I want has been named, and I didn't realize how many shows I wanted!

A few others:

American Gothic - they keep teasing us with it, but it never comes out. At this point, I'm pretty sure it won't.

PSI Factor: Chronicles of the Paranormal - Matt Frewer, Nigel Bennett, quirky show. Got mired down towards the end, but that's true for most shows out there.

Wizards & Warriors - just so I can see if it's as cheesy as I remember it from my childhood. Lasted all of 8 episodes, and came out when I was a major Dungeons & Dragons geek.
