Will Lucas release the unaltered Star Wars films on DVD?

I ask because he keeps on working on his SW creation constantly changing his word. He's decided to release all in 3D now, and a SW tv-show, rumors of a pre-episode 1 movie, and future ep.7-9 even by other directors. Will he go back and change his word of never releasing the original movies and actually release the 1977, 1980, and 1983 masterworks on DVD? With original poster art on the covers as they convey the feeling of the films a lot better, and have a lot more class, and none of this Star Wars Episode IV/V/VI: A New Hope and just have three movies simply called Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi

Mr. Cinema 05-29-05 11:29 PM

Has this been asked about before?

Jackskeleton 05-29-05 11:29 PM

They no longer exist to him

In before someone says the typical "I GOTS IT ON DVD... HURRRR HURRRR"

djtoell 05-29-05 11:32 PM

Wow. I've never even thought of this concept before. Good thing there's a thread to discuss it now!

He keeps adding things to his SW plethora, making money on it. I'm just hoping a few years from now he could realize this and release these as it was meant to be, the originals given the DVD treatment.

The Infidel 05-29-05 11:34 PM

I believe Lucas was quoted in an interview as saying, more or less, "If you want the original movies, buy them on VHS. They're my movies, and I can do what I want with them." I don't know where the original interview is, so obviously it's not an exact quote, but that was the gist of it.

UAIOE 05-29-05 11:35 PM

Why does he need a pre-Episode 1 movie?

And what would he call it, Episode 0?

duff beer 05-29-05 11:35 PM

I know it's been discussed before he won't release them, but how surprising he keeps playing on the house adding new Star Wars projects to something he said he's done with. A new hope for the originals?

RyoHazuki 05-29-05 11:37 PM

No. Never. Sorry. Get over it.

Stop drinking Duff Beer, it's bad for your brain. Obviously.

Thank god I have the LDs.

Amel 05-29-05 11:44 PM

Magic 8 ball says it's undecided.

Who knows? Hopefully, he will. But I don't count on it anytime soon.

Wow, that Star Wars Sub-Forum in movie talk must not exist. Oh yeah, the search button must not exist either ;)

:saber:

more like the lack of the dvd...

since the thread is up i have a question...

if they released the classic trilogy unaltered who would bitch if they didn't take out matte lines and if they only released original mono track...(I know star wars had a stereo track in some places also)...so matte lines on the ships, and rancor, etc. and no surround sound.....then what

duff beer 05-30-05 12:41 AM

I'd hope it be criterion, ofcourse the usual clean ups would happen, just none of those 1997 alterations or any for that matter.

that would never ever happen...nor is it needed. Lucas will always self produce Star Wars extras....and they would rival anything criterion would get their hands on. At that point you only want criterion for namesake not content...

Why only mono? In the US, the first film had a 6-track 70mm mix, a Dolby Stereo mix, and a mono mix. There's no reason to pretend that only a mono mix would or should be released.

Anyway, I wouldn't bitch about the original films being released with its original effects. That would be one of the main points of doing it in the first place.

not taking or adding effects just taking out matte lines like they did for the vhs and laserdisc thx remasters

story 05-30-05 01:06 AM

No.

duff beer 05-30-05 01:06 AM

Well the only extra content i'd care about would be the director/cast commentaries as long as we get the originals on DVD, with those beautiful poster covers. Warner releases its own classics with original poster covers intact.
