DVD Format differences

I rent from Netflex and received a movie that won't play on the DVD player but will play on my computer. What could be the problem?

I agree with that. I have four different DVD drives/players, and when I get a damaged disc I try it in all four. They all react differently to the damage; sometimes one will play a disc none of the others will. Freaky thing is that which drive will be most successful varies with the disc.
