No fix or word from Geneon USA. Buy the R2 import or wait for Blu-Ray (if they ever re-release it in HD).

When I saw this thread revived I thought there was finally news of a recall.

I'd say wait for BluRay and hope Genenon doesn't screw it up again. As for imports, the Japanese release has no English subtitles so it it's not for non-Japanese speakers and I read at AnimeOnDvd.com that the Uk release is actually an NTSC transfer converted to PAL (I assume that's as bad as the reverse scenario).

What I don't get is why this wasn't a bigger issue. Even the dub track was underwhelming. Not as bad as either Japanese track but still pretty bad. I guess everyone was wowed by the pretty pictures and never noticed the crappy audio.

I think people were distracted by the extremely loud surround channels, which can be a bit overwhelming, and failed to notice that the front channels were extremely wimpy.

Appleseed is easily the worst-mixed DVD I own. I can't even bring myself to watch it again, it sounds like so much muddled ass.

I'm hesitant to watch it too because of the mixing, but I also remember some bad gradient banding, which really bugs me. It's such a shame since the LE has such outstanding packaging.

Yeah. I still can't believe the R2J release kicks ass (so I heard), while the R1 sucks ass.

The audio is definitely... weird... on this release.

I dunno why but today I sddenly remembered this thread. Any word on someone else getting the rights to this feature for an HD release (or a brand new DVD release) that wont have screwed up audio?
