I hocked off my old GB disc last month! WOOHOO! :D

SvenL 05-13-05 06:15 AM

The book is the giveaway - why would they include the book if the new editions were already worth buying?

This all sounds like speculation on your part. Unless you have anything that is fact from a real source, you're just spreading rumors. Even though Sony mentioned a 20th anniversary edition last summer, it never happened. I'll wait until someone has some genuine info on this. Thanks for the heads-up though.
I'm a pessimist when it comes to studios releasing "special" dvds, so I also vote it will just be a repackaging.

Nickofdoom 05-14-05 12:34 PM

I've been looking to pick the first one up anyway, since i missed out on getting it before it went OOP. So, while i hope it's a new disk, i'll get it either way.

Well, it looks that is a special edition after all. According to www.tvshowsondvd.com, one of the extras is 2 episodes from the Real Ghostbusters cartoon series. Here is the link, with a peak at the back cover of these release:

If that picture is what the set looks like, I like it!

JoeyOhhhh 05-16-05 09:19 PM

Would be nice to know the rest of the features on this upcoming release.

Hopefully they won't go through all this trouble just to add two episodes of a cartoon.

MJG87 05-17-05 02:12 PM

Its sad that they couldn't tell us the rest of the details on that promo

dadaluholla 05-17-05 02:21 PM

EWWWW!!!! If it is going to be all green colored like that I am DEFINITELY going to buy this thing. Its very pretty in a slimy gross kind of way...and I have yet to pick up GB in any format!! HOORAY.

demonio 05-17-05 02:27 PM

the box looks killer!!

dadaluholla 05-17-05 02:58 PM

I wouldn't mind having that horrible Ray Parker Jr video as a bonus too.

weargle 05-17-05 04:03 PM

20 year anniversary? Damn, I'm getting old.

steebo777 05-17-05 06:03 PM

Sexy box. I'm buying for sure

Skoobooz 05-17-05 07:42 PM

I hope they do something special for Ghostbusters II. I'd hate to wait until 2009 for the 20th anniversary special edition of that (or 2010, given Columbia's seeming inability to get things out on time, like Karate Kid).

Dabaomb 05-17-05 09:28 PM

that box looks like the Spongebob Season DVD boxes

Cameron 05-17-05 11:18 PM

good to hear they will be remastered...and the toons help....wish the ray parker jr video would show up....i smell a best buy bonus dvd...

found this at the bits

By the way, we have word that Sony's Ghostbusters: Double Feature Gift Set will both films with newly remastered anamorphic widescreen video. It will also include 2 episodes of The Real Ghostbusters animated series. Other than that, all of the extras on the set (deleted scenes, commentary, multi-angle featurettes, etc) are recycled from the previous DVD releases

bhauge 05-17-05 11:24 PM

Just got my copy of VIDEO BUSINESS, and they had an ad for this inside the front cover. Here's the list of features:
  • Get both films, GHOSTBUSTERS 1 & 2, plus a collectible scrapbook for one low price ($19.94 SLP)
  • Contains Remastered Video plus 2 animated episodes of the REAL GHOSTBUSTERS
  • 3 featurettes
  • Deleted Scenes
  • Photo Galleries
  • Multi-Angle features
  • Storyboards
  • Audio Commentary with Ivan Reitman, Harold Ramis, and Joe Medjuck

Rammsteinfan 05-17-05 11:40 PM

Im sure thats just commentary for the first film. Would be nice if they did a new one for the second. I might get this anyways with such a low price. I have the first movie already but the toons and part 2 might seal the deal.

DVDTalker002 05-17-05 11:52 PM

Since their putting cartoons on here, do you think its a teaser for a box set of cartoons to come?

Egon's Ghost 05-18-05 04:07 AM

Oooooooh, thems fightin' woydz.

I just need to know which damn episodes! Hopefully the Lorenzo Music years.

basaro 05-18-05 08:13 AM

As I suspected, nothing special really. Just remastered video for both movies, but hey, at least we get something! Considering I've been holding out on these, now would be the time if they don't mess up the new transfers, and for less than $20 for both flicks, it's a steal.

QuiGonJosh 05-18-05 08:21 AM

MSRP is only $19.95? That means it'll be $15 in stores probably and that's a damn good price for two flicks and a couple of episodes. Might just get it.

Geofferson 05-18-05 08:53 AM

Great price for this -- I'll be getting it for sure.

SFranke 05-18-05 09:23 AM

It would've been great if this release were a three-disc set with Superbit presentations of both GB and GB2 with the third disc housing extras for both films.
