Re: Under the Rainbow
Looks like they have a disclaimer as to the quality.... Bet it is still much better than the VHS I own...lol... It looked okay in the small picture they presented.... who knows what it will look like on our TVs... Not like it will ever get a "blu" treatment...

In this particular case, they aren't kidding with the disclaimer. Can't remember where I saw it, but somebody just received their copy recently and were very underwhelmed by the video quality. Just FYI. I believe the picture was widescreen anamorphic, but soft as hell.

Re: Under the Rainbow
I got this in last week and have posted in several threads about its (lack of) quality. It's one of the worst looking DVDs I've ever seen from a major studio- if not the worst. The little youtube clip they show on the WB site gives no idea whatsoever how bad this title looks. Major compression artifacting all over every frame along with edge ringing. I submitted a scathing review to the site several days ago, but they haven't posted it, and I can't say I'll be surprised if they don't. Even at $10 I would feel ripped off on this one.
Unless you have a small display and sit far away from it, I would avoid this one
and even then, on my 19" computer monitor it was easy to see how bad this was.
just my $.02

Re: Under the Rainbow
Not an insider. I think I was just researching the hell out of this...among my favorite goofball comedies of the 80s and a strong one for personal nostalgia. I probably happened upon a writeup somewhere on the net where perhaps someone else had some info or I saw something about it on a Warner Brothers web site. My second post there I had probably looked at the clip at wbshop and thought it looked pretty good.
I've owned the Official VHS for years. It has a horrible picture too. Soft and very ugly...nearly unwatchable. An old recorded off cable tape I had almost had a better picture.
Anyway, I finally picked up this DVD today, along with 4 others, in the sale they're having. I doubt I'll be overly disappointed since I don't expect much from it. I made a DVD from my own Official tape (just a day before I found out it was actually getting an official DVD) and I seriously doubt the Official DVD here will be worse than my homemade one or my official VHS. Can't wait to find out.
This is among the films I'd almost volunteer to be in the remastering team, along with Alice's Adventures in Wonderland (1972). Very dear films of mine.

I really wish WB would go back and create a new master and disc image for this title. Not a great film, but if they finally treated it right I would re-buy it. They've gotten a lot better with their archive titles in general - and this one sticks out all the more now for being such an unworthy effort.

Re: Under the Rainbow
Just viewed the DVD and felt it was a substantial improvement over the VHS I bought years ago. But at least that much was expected. The graininess is bad but didn't ruin the experience watching it again. So nostalgic. And a very quotable film too.
I'll echo the above... release this again after elevating the transfer where it should be and I"ll rebuy as well. Glad I only paid about $10 for this.
