Under the Rainbow?

I wonder if this will ever be released? Anyone heard any rumors surrounding this title?

Added the ? are you happy now? Good!

Tenacious D 05-06-05 08:00 AM

Yeah. I'd buy this. I remember seeing this in the movie theater when I was a kid. Billy Barty was hilarious!

If Modern Problems can make it to DVD, I can't see why this one wouldn't. Unless there are some sort of rights issues because of the nonstop Wizard of Oz shenanigans.

Tenacious D 05-06-05 09:56 AM

Does anyone know who owns the rights to Under The Rainbow? If it's Warner Brothers, then there shouldn't be any problems with The Wizard of Oz shenanigans, I would think.

lotsofdvds 05-06-05 10:02 AM

Well it was an Orion release. But Warner put out the VHS that I own... the old giant clamshell one.

Lastdaysofrain 05-06-05 10:42 AM

I'm fairly certain MGM owns the rights to this when they bought the Orion back catalog.

So now this should be owned by Sony.

salamander2 05-06-05 09:16 PM

All Orion titles that was released thru Warner are still owned by Warner (WOLFEN, SHARKEY'S MACHINE, AWAKENING, CADDYSHACK, ROLLOVER, SPHYNX, THE HAND, FIENDISH PLOT OF DR FU MANCHU, DIE LAUGHING, etc). So Warner controls this title still.

from the warner chat a few weeks ago at htf.

"[RonEpstein] Any word on the Chevy Chase film, UNDER THE RAINBOW?

[WarnerHomeVideo] Ron, do you only like bad '80s comedies? (Just kidding)

[RonEpstein] You know what? That came from...well... okay...Bill Hunt of
THE DIGITAL BITS. I have to rat him out otherwise I get cursed.

[WarnerHomeVideo] No plans for UNDER THE RAINBOW...although we do have
midgets in our future. Bad boy Bill Hunt! "

Somebody with the screen name radioman970us posts at IMDB and seems to have information that this is coming out. An insider or an overeager fan? I don't know. Take it for what it is...

From the March 09 Warner/HTF chat:

[ChristopherBlig] Great news with WA now with all the releases is there a chance lesser known films with the cast of SNL like Nothing Lasts Forever, Spies Like Us and Over The Rainbow see the light of day on DVD and will the Archive titles have at least a trailer of the feature?

[warnerbros] All of them are coming, but actually more likely for retail than Warner Archive. SPIES would obviously be a widescreen reissue.

Re: Under the Rainbow

I'd never heard of it - and when I saw this message on the board I read through it to see what it was. I didn't even notice the first posts were 4 years old at first! You'd think this would be out by now.

What was it about?

Re: Under the Rainbow

Hey just did a search and this is available on Amazon. Was that with Chevy Chase & Carrie Fisher?
