I bought (actually got it for free from an Aussie website that was running a treaure hunt) and used the cash to buy the R4 which was the unrated and there is some noticeable differences.

This should be called the Unrated and Unwanted Edition

Like...?

I was seriously asking, Bill Geiger. What are the noticeable differences between the two versions of this film?

K

The specs are apparently wrong. The back of the slipcover lists the ratio at 2.35:1. I thought this wasn't coming out till the beginning of August. Oh well.

I was thinking the same thing; people were so quick to say that it's not much of a change because it's only one minute longer ... but, as an example, 'Eyes Wide Shut' is exactly the same length, but there's a lot in the unrated version which is digitally cut from the R-rated. Not suggesting that 'Dodgeball' did this, but they could replace a lot of scenes from the released version ('Anchorman' did, sometimes putting in less funny but more dirty takes).

Not that the scenes added are gonna change your focus or opinion of the film.. but I noticed them. I don't know if they will be on the R1 but this is what I have on the R4. The differences are as follows:

Deleted & Extended Scenes (11:35 total)

An interesting and funny set of deleted scenes. An optional commentary by the director is included which covers why scenes were cut but spends most of the time just describing the action. The scenes are:

1. Cardio Cowboy - A funny pisstake on the current craze of novelty exercise programs.
2. Gordon asks for a divorce - More interaction between Gordon and his family.
3. Justin & Amber see Derek before cheerleading finals - Basically Derek in a full body cast
4. The Dirty Sanchez - Extended bar scene with Dwight subplot
5. Fran & Owen in bed - Funny stuff
6. Kate's Porch - Extended version of the scene between Kate & White on her porch
7. Justin & Amber Kiss - Extended kiss.
8. Shame Triangle - Abandoned concept of how players who foul are treated.
9. Three Way Kiss - The logical extension of Kate's revelation in the closing scenes.
10. Different Ending - A different version of the post credits fat White than that used in the film itself.

Alternate Ending (1:18)

According to the optional director's commentary, this is the way he wanted it to end but the studio wouldn't go for it..

Plus, there is added language....suck as a c*ck flavored lollipop mention instead of what was orignally stated as well as other things.

That's a joke.

I just quoted the review site where I took it from.

That's exactly what they're doing now. In addition to all these special editions, limited editions, collector's editions, director's cuts and so forth, they've now found the unrated edition marketing ploy where it's only unrated because the MPAA didn't rate it. Buena Vista jumped on that bandwagon big time (Gone in 60 Seconds, Coyote Ugly, etc.).

Yeah, they need to start a NC-17 thing....I can see it now, Coyote Ugly: NC-17 version

Take a step back and think about what, at the core, the word 'Unrated' really means. It's cryptic. It's curiosity of the unknown. It's somewhat taboo. It's like giving the MPAA the big middle finger up where the sun don't shine. ("how dare they preach to us what is and what isn't morally acceptable in terms of violence, language and nudity!!!!!!!") Right?

But best of all, it's the biggest marketing sham of the 21st century...and consumers gobble it up hook line and sinker. Pure genius.

so any word yet on what is actually different within THE MOVIE itself...is this worth a rent if I own the previous edition?

Well , at work today i compared the difference via the slipcases and the runtime was listed as the same : 92 minutes. Many of the features looked to be listed the same. The difference was that the unrated one had "super-sexy" footage of the dodgeball cheerleaders.

Not expecting much like everyone else here... :)

This was available at my local Best Buy today when I was there... in the Minneapolis MN area...
