"That's what he has always done. You may not like his decisions, but they are his, and they are his movies. Trust, something people don't seem to do much anymore, putting trust into a director/creator is essential."
Yes, in a legal sense, they are his movies. In an ethical/practical sense, these movies belong to the hundreds of people who worked on them, acted in them, created special effects, etc. By editing these movies AND not continuing to make available the originals, Lucas is making decisions not just about his own work, but about the work of countless other people. How would you feel if you designed an effect in ESB that was no longer in the film due to Lucas' editing? It's not just to the fans that Lucas has a responsibility to release the original versions. |
No one has told you, but the spin off character for the tv show will be Jar Jar!

Their all Lucas's and he can chose to use them, cut them, etc. as he see's fit. The laborer's that worked with him have no right to complain. |
Well, Ive yet to buy the trilogy (I can get it for $30 or less) but now with this new one, I may have to wait. But ONLY if they remaster EP 1 and fix the errors alot of people noticed in EP 4.
And that series sounds awesome! Though Im not a huge star wars fan (I havent even seen the original trilogy) I'll defentaley watch. I just hope its on an HD station (maybe HBO?) and has some bad ass effects. Whats the expected date on releasing this show? |
From The Force.net:
Another box set is in the works: Looks like a 6 disc box set with all episodes 1-6. Possibly a 7th disc, maybe with deleted scenes from the original trilogy. He was asked if he would be changing things again in the movies, prequels or original. He replied that everything is the way he wants them now. As far as the rumored super archival edition due out in 2007 on super hi-def dvd, there is no truth to that. |
Bring it on. I'll buy it.

Click HERE to read who the television series will likely be based on. (Small ROTS spoiler in the link.)
Spoiler:
I really like the sound of this. |
That bonus disc would really have to be worthwhile for me to pick this box set up, even then, I might sell off the discs and keep the bonus one.

Lucas will direct first season Do you think Lucas could possibly add the original, un-screwed trilogy? but about the work of countless other people ANOTHER ONE!?!?!?!? OH MY GOD!!! George Lucas you are no longer on my list of top directors. I thought it would be at least 3 years before you make us double-dip but one year?!!?!?!?!?!? And for what it's worth, it will have been 3 years when the 2007 DVD set is released. Last year in 2004, the original trilogy was released. That's 3 years not counting the eventual Episode III release. |
There's really no way I could've waited 2-3 years to own the OT. I'm happy to own any legit version of the trilogy on DVD right now. Who knows what could happen in in 2-3 years anyway (and knowing Lucas, heh heh)
All I really hope for is that in December when ROTS is released on DVD, an official box to keep all 7 dvds in is released. |
At this point I'll just keep buying every incarnation of the movies. when I have an entire shelf with OT boots, SE boots, EP 123, Ep 456 SSE, and then when EP 123 SE and 456 SSSE come I'll buy those, and then when the 123 HDSSE, and 456 HDSSSSE. Ill just keep setting them beside each other.
Then one day when GL stops by the house, I'll show him my collection, and hopefully he wont sue me for the boots... |
I think TF.N is getting confused. 6 Film boxset, not 6 Disc boxset. I don't Lucas would release a new boxset and not include all of the extras from the other releases or at least a extra disc per movie. It'll likely be a 12 disc boxset.

I'll back Terrell up on this one since I attended 2 out of the 3 Lucas presentations at C3. Lucas isn't going to direct them (the TV show), but he will be involved in setting it up.
Also, in the 1st and 3rd Lucas presentations, there was NO mention of any future DVD versions. He might have said something in the 2nd presentation though... |
