Disc Defects in PRIMER

Having several problems with my disc, most notably:

-- Playback error from 16:00-16:12 (unplayable)
-- Blocky/pink compression artifacts visible at 13:40

Others have noticed these problems on the Primer movie site:

http://primermovie.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=464

Anybody here having these (or other) issues?

Yes. I rented it and watched it yesterday. The disc would freeze up right after the 15 minute mark. Had to skip to the next chapter and rewind to midway through the 16th minute. Missed about a full minute of movie there. Thought it was just the rental copy that was problematic. I guess not.

Guess I'll hold out on buying this one, then. Is it a problem on all of the discs on all players, all of the discs on some players, just some of the discs, or what (in other words, anybody out there bought this and watched it all the way through with no problems)?

Fuck... how does something so obvious as an unplayable segment not get noticed during quality control?

Rental copy played fine on my cheapo Apex (god I love this player). I loved the line about "I'm starving, I haven't eaten since later today."

Same thing on my Denon DVD-1600. Skipped and looked choppy. Excellent flick though.

Played just fine on my Philips DVP642. And I was looking for errors after reading this thread. My brain needed an icepak after the movie ended, however.

My Pioneer 525 handled it just fine but crapped out on Kung Fu Hustle (sigh).

Watched this last night on a Panasonic DVD-S75. Was the Canadian Region 1 (MGM). Played perfectly. Great movie!

Rented it and had problems on my Pioneer DV-563A. I really liked the movie and would like to own it, but not with this problem.

Yes but this is also New Line, well known for quality discs. Then they go and do something like this.

Which problem did you have? I have the same player and the disc has the compression artifact. I returned the disc and still have the defect. I guess I'm just stuck with it.
