Well...normally I'm REALLY unhappy when they don't include the theatrical cut as an option (assumption at this point based on it being the "director's cut" with additional running time). But in this particular instance, all of the extra footage I've seen when the film was broadcast on network television is great stuff, so I can live with it. I still don't see why they can't include both versions using seamless branching, however.

I still don't understand why this hasn't been announced officially. The only place on the Internet I've heard about it is here, and now this link to a UK website....I'm sorry, but this seems fishy to me.

Further Details
Universal has announced a director's cut of the John Waters' 1990 musical Cry-Baby which stars Johnny Depp. The disc will be available to own from the 12th July this year, and should set you back around $19.98 in total. The film will run to 1 hour 32 minutes (around seven minutes longer than the theatrical version), and will be presented in 1.85:1 anamorphic widescreen along with an English Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo track. English, French and Spanish subtitles will also be provided. I'm afraid we have no details on extra material for this one at the moment, but we'll let you know just as soon as we hear anything

But if you still need more verification:
From thedigitalbits.com:
Okay... just one more post this week with a bit of DVD release news. It's just too good not to check in with. Universal has just announced the DVD release of Carl Reiner and Steve Martin's The Jerk: 26th Anniversary Edition on 7/26 (SRP $19.98). The film will be available in anamorphic widescreen video, with Dolby Digital 5.1 audio. Extras will include the Learn How to Play "Tonight You Belong to Me" and The Lost Filmstrips of Father Carlos Las Vegas de Cordova featurettes, the film's theatrical trailer and production notes. Other extras are TBA. Also coming from Universal on 7/12 is John Waters' Cry-Baby: Director's Cut (SRP $19.98), available in anamorphic widescreen and full frame versions with Dolby Digital 2.0 audio. Thanks to our friend Dave Lambert for the heads-up on The Jerk. Great news!
But if you are still doubtful about Mao's original post:

And if you don't trust any of the sources I provided, then you are a DTA kind of person, who will not believe this is going to be released until you have it in your hands.

I got burned too many times with the Ed Wood dvd to not be a little worried that it won't happen. That's a great cover!

Here is the breakdown of the added and extended scenes.
The USA cable network version has a few extra scenes, including two extra songs, "Chicken" and "The Naughty Lady of Shady Lane":
Hatchetface's parents selling cigarettes by the school
Toe-Joe's does a "work-with-me" spiel instead of thanking his "Nudie Cutie"
an added act of a flexible little girl in the RSVP charm school talent show
extra footage of Hatchtface chasing Snaredrum and Susie Q around Ramona's front lawn
Lenora's "gunboats" are now "goldmines"
The third verse of Allison's song, "Teenage Prayer," is included
Extra footage of Cry-Baby driving his motorcycle to the charm school, a cop chasing him and an air raid drill that interupts Allison's act
Cry-Baby combs his hair instead of adjusting his crotch when he gets off of his motorcycle;
"Lay That Pistol Down" dance number is included
Cry-Baby arrives during "So Young" instead of before the song beginning, as in video version
In the movie, Hatchetface says, "Ain't ya got tits? Stick 'em out for God's sake!" In the USA Network version, she says, "Ain't ya got a figure? Show it!"
There is a longer scene with Wanda, her parents, and Inga, the Swedish exchange student
The showdown is at Turkey Point instead of at the press conference in front of the prison
I'm guessing he may be picking and choosing for his "director's cut" which is a shame because all this footage is priceless IMHO...

IIRC, Chicken was part of the taunting at the prison in the network version, and a lot of the dialogue from the film was cut from that scene, with similar dialogue added in to segue into "chicken". Also, I believe the naughty lady of shady lane played instead of? in addition to? the bunny hop outside of allison's balcony. damn, now I'm second guessing myself - it might have been part of the talent show before Sh-Boom.
I will actually be really irked if the toned down language is used, as I feel the need to tell whomever is watching the film with me what the "real" dialogue is supposed to be.

This makes me happy!
First the James Dean Coll., then the John Waters Coll. and now Cry Baby on DVD. I couldn't dream of a better summer, at least when it comes to DVD releases.
Oh, I musn't forget "Undeclared": The Complete Series in august. Hurray!

Out of all the deleted scenes, the biggest losses would be either of the two songs + the third verse of Teenage Prayer. The songs are priceless. Then I would definitely miss the extended bike ride and the extended talent show.
This is one of my favorite comedies of all time. All the extra footage to me is gold. I wish he would just splice the USA version with the uncut dialogue from the theatrical version. Then he could include the alternate dialogue used for the TV version as deleted scenes.
Nonetheless, I am still glad it is not going to be a bare bones release. Waters is listening to the public...

Ok, I dug the USA version out over the weekend and watched it. I figured out the running time without commercials and it came to approximately 91 minutes. Which could be very good news about this release...
