Argh. From the title I thought it was an announcement, not a question!

Me too! And I was a teenager when I saw it during it's initial theatrical release.

I consider myself fortunate to have seen movies at a time when it was actually possible to be genuinely terrified by them.

This movie is why I have a phobia about ventriloquist's dummies now.

I agree. Just the trailer than ran on TV scared the crap out of me. Haven't looked at a ventriloquist dummy the same since.

It scared the fuck out of me and I've never even seen it.

The trailer for it played in front of a movie my mother took me to when I was a wee tike, and it scared the living fuck out of me. I was probably five at the time, and it played in front of a Disney movie, of all things...

And in all of those years, I've never actually watched the damned thing, though I'd love to.

If you have a multi-regional player, Nicheflix rents it, although it is full-frame.

What's with the use of the four letter word?

Which one?

I like coming to this forum and seeing the use of a selection of descriptive words. It's nice to be treated like an adult and gives the place a relaxed feel. As long as it's not used in an abusive way I can never see a problem with it.

After all there are worse four letter words like I r a q for instance.

Let's leave the censoring to our governments who we pay to do it with our taxes.

Now THAT is more scary to me than Magic ever was.

Yeah, the TV spot/trailer was something that really hit kids pretty hard in the shit-the-pants department. I remember being scared because the dummy had it's back turned to the camera, and then it slowly turned forward. Anything that did that slow reveal from the back of the head scared the shit out of me....same thing with the Suspiria spot with the skeleton brushing its hair and the Beyond the Door spot with the mother turning her head around when the kid taps her shoulder.

I thought the Magic trailer really scared me, but I remember being at my friend's house and when it came on the TV, he started yelling and crying and convulsing like something was about to end his little life...and that was before the dummy even showed his face. I guess he had been previously traumatized.

I think even the LD was Pan and Scan. I haven't seen this since the 70's.

This may not be exactly right since it's just from memory...

Abracadabra - I sit on his knee.
Presto Chango - and now he is me.
Hocus Pocus - we take her to bed.
Magic is fun - you're dead.

The funniest thing is that more people remember the trailer (or the tv spot) than the film.

You know what that means, don't you?

When it does hit DVD, the trailer won't be included. Just because we want it.

Very true! I remember how effective the tv spots were at the time, and then how disappointed I was in the actual film when I went to see it opening weekend. It wasn't really a bad film at all, but just not that good either. Maybe it has aged well - I haven't seen it since. The only way I'd definitely buy this on DVD, though, is if they DO include those spots as extras. I bet I'm not the only one either. Love that nostalgia.

This is one of my first cinematic memories . . . and I was scarred for life. No offense guys, but if this thing never sees the light of day it will be too soon for me. Was the movie that scary? I'm not sure it probably wouldn't be today, but I was too young at the time and it left me with a battered psyche . . . I can't even say the "V" dummy word.

And, without checking IMDB, don't forget Anthony Perkins and Ann-Margaret (who is still HOT!).

It was Dr Lecter, Anthony Hopkins, not Norman Bates/Perkins who was the lead in Magic. However, Perkins would have been just as effective.
