I did quite a bit of double-dipping a few months ago, during Blockbuster’s brief $8 trade-in offer. Since I picked up most (not all) of the new editions as Columbia House enrollments* or during B&M sales** ($5-10 each), I pretty much broke even (or made a few dollars, in some cases):

The 400 Blows (upgraded to Criterion)
8 1/2 (upgraded to Criterion)
Alien*
Aliens*
All About Eve**
Black Hawk Down*
Brazil (upgraded to Criterion)
Buck Privates
Buck Privates Come Home
Casablanca*
Cinema Paradiso*
Clerks**
Do the Right Thing (upgraded to Criterion)
Escape from New York*
Fargo**
Groundhog Day**
Gone with the Wind
The Good, the Bad and the Ugly*
Goodfellas (upgrade in box set)
The Great Escape*
The Happy Gilmore/Billy Madison Collection (Widescreen)**
The Hunt for Red October**
(Abbott & Costello) In the Navy
Jerry Maguire*
A League of Their Own*
M (upgraded Criterion to new Criterion edition)
The Manchurian Candidate (1962)**
Mary Poppins
Mulan
My Fair Lady**
My Man Godfrey (upgraded to Criterion)
The Nutty Professor (1963)**
One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest*
The Pink Panther Collection**
The Princess Bride**
The Philadelphia Story (upgrade in box set)
Patriot Games**
Pulp Fiction*
Raging Bull (upgrade in box set)
Showgirls**
Sixteen Candles**
South Park
Terminator 2: Judgment Day

I've double-dipped many many times, but as far as I can remember, only one triple-dip so far:
Amityville II The Possession
(Italian release, old UK release and now the R1 release)

Saving Private Ryan - had the original DD version, got the DTS version, then sold both to get the World War II Collection when Costco had it cheap.

A Bug's Life - Upgraded to the new Collector's Edition when Costco had it cheap.

From Russia With Love (I think, some James Bond one) - Had an individual copy, then found a used set and sold the one in the set.

I don't double dip; I upgrade.

I'm unsure as to how many I've upgraded.

Nothing that I can recall. I don't play that game and have been lucky up to this point. I'd rather spend my money on something I don't already have. I'm not saying it will never happen, but it hasn't yet (~400 titles).

Unless you count movies that have been replaced because of box sets (for example, I already had Psycho and got another copy when I bought the big Hitchcock box set). I wouldn't call that a double dip personally.

Caved in and double-dipped on Ghostbusters since the new box set was so cheap. Getting the new Batman box set, so there's even more double-dipping.

The Good the Bad and the Ugly
The Great Escape
The Man Who Fell to Earth
