The Quiet Man
Does anyone know if Artisan or some other company is planning to remaster The Quiet Man - both current editions including the collectors edition have an awful picture Thanks Richard

Yes, Paramount now owns the rights, and will be putting out a decent version soon. From what I understand, the film is already remastered...but the soundtrack needs some more work.
Should be out within the next couple of years, I'm thinking.

Forget Artisan (or Lion's Gate) remastering it. They've "remastered" others like HIGH NOON and it was no better, maybe even worse, than the first issue. They really don't do a very good job with their classic films at all.
However, the good news is that it looks like the rights are reverting to Paramount. From this thread at HTF:
THE QUIET MAN is a Republic Pictures movie.
Here's hoping Paramount gets some good elements and does a proper restoration and nice DVD version sooner rather than later.

Paramount Pictures
- Controls nearly all post-1948 films
- Distributes CBS Films titles, with exceptions (like My Fair Lady).
- Licensed Spelling Films/Republic Pictures/Worldvision/etc library to Artisan Entertainment (now Lion's Gate Home Entertainment). License to end in 2005, reverting distribution to Paramount.

I have Artisan's Invasion Of the Body Snatchers disc. I would love to see an improved transfer of this film. Maybe Paramount will someday release the original version in it's correct aspect ratio. Has anyone heard news concerning this?

The original 3-strip negatives to The Quiet Man reside at UCLA's Film & TV Archive. So, any remaster (of course, from a new intermediate element) would look fantastic.
