Law & Order The Third Year 05.24.05

From dvd answers

Title: Law & Order
Starring: Jerry Orbach
Released: 24th May 2005
SRP: $59.98

Further Details
Universal has released early details on Law & Order: The Third Year (1992-93 season) which stars Jerry Orbach, Paul Sorvino, Michael Moriarty, Chris Noth and Richard Brooks. This three-disc set will include all twenty-two episodes of the third season, each of which will be presented in 1.33:1 full frame along with English Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo tracks. English, French and Spanish subtitles will also be provided. I'm afraid we have no details on extra material for this one yet, but we'll let you know just as soon as we hear anything. You'll be able to own this one from the 24th May, priced at around $59.98.

I'll save all of my wise-ass comments about Universal's questionable/slow release schedule and just say... great news! That's a definitely purchase.

$60 seems a bit steep for 3 discs on a very old season. I'm not a fan of the sets that burn episodes on both sides of the disc, skipping out on disc artwork and larger packages. Can't even give the 6 disc treatment? I'd much rather see SVU seasons coming out.

$60 is just SRP. It will street for the high $30s.

The first two seasons were good, but when Jerry came, he and Chris Noth hooked up right. They're the best team of the entire series. I hope Noth comes back in some present episodes. I mostly hated Universal for releasing season 14 ahead of 2

Yeah, that's how Universal is doing most of their sets now. They actually made that change after Season 1... Season 2 + 14 both go the 3-disc route.

A LOT of studios are starting to do double-sided discs. The main reasoning behind it is that it makes the case that much smaller so stores can stock more merchandise. It also saves them a tiny bit of money or packaging costs.

i can't wait until tuesday...out of all my tv dvd sets Law & Order and SVU have the highest replay value. season three is where it really gets good.

i checked it out in the warehouse at work and i was sorta disappointed to see two packaging changes. first, they switched from the digipak to three slim cases. i know some of you will welcome that news and its not a huge deal to me either but i don't like how the booklet just gets slid in between the cases instead of a pocket in the digipak. i find the L&O booklets the most useful of all my tv sets so i hope they didn't ditch that too. being that they've gone to the three double sided discs, the digipak was easy to handle and personally, i liked it for those sets.

secondly, it appears universal decided to lose the clear plastic slipcase that came with the last L&O releases. i guess they didn't feel the need to keep it since they didn't have a digipak to hold together. even so, i wish they would have retained that design aspect for continuity's sake. then again i should have known better than to expect universal to stick to a packaging design.

oh, and for those who are wondering...expect a $41.99 sticker at Best Buy. not sure if it will be a bit lower on release week.

Definitely agree with you and Darkhawk... Jerry Orbach was 'The Man'. The season 3 episodes will definitely get more playtime in June than any of my other DVDs.

Briscoe/Logan are hands down my favorite pair of detectives and watching the season finale last week i realized that Fontana/Falco are my favorite pair since. too bad Green comes back next season.

i don't think there are any cuts or alterations. as always these are the full length episodes...if L&O loses any scenes in syndication the scenes are not missing on the dvds. these are as they were seen when they first aired. as for the deleted scenes they are from a handful of the episodes throughout the season. you can find more info at lawandorderdvd.com.

and i hate to beat the horse but the package difference is more noticeable than i thought. the size of the slipcase is different and the font sizes are noticeably off. i wish they'd pick a packaging design and stick with it...these season sets are starting to look silly on my shelf. stupid universal.

I was looking through several episodes and it seems to be there is a noticable increase in picture quality on this set over the previous ones. Like there was new telecine done for these while the priors looked like old telecine ported over.
