I have 44 of them. But there are quite a few on there I would buy if I saw them used and cheap.

82 here, not counting titles that are not part of my personal collection (although those would only add 5-8 to the total). Some of them I don't have because I'm waiting on better versions.

I thought I had many of them as I started to count them down, but even though I have 56 of the top 100, I only have 25 of the next 150.

I wondered why I didn't see The Decalogue. They don't count it since it was made for TV. If they did, its 9.3 rating would put it at No. 1. It has fewer votes (972) than anything on the top 100, but I did see some on the bottom 100 (which I have none of) with less than 700.

Edit: number changed. I assume we are to edit our posts instead of adding new ones as we get more of them.

I own 137, but I've seen much more than that and some on the list I had formerly owned but do not anymore (didn't count those.) I'm pretty surprised at that number as I don't use "best of" lists as blind buys or as guides for what to watch, I just go by what I study on my own about film and my own taste. No idea I'd have that many in common, though some of those I would not call the "top films" either, just really good or great ones.

The 250 is pretty ridiculous. There are some average or decent flicks that are on the list and many older flicks are not. It is a popularity contest now. Therefore over time the newer blockbusters will eventually knock off the established movies based on number of votes.

Here are a few ridiculous titles on the list. Also I wonder about some of those obscure foreign flicks) How do they get the votes.

Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels? Are they kidding
The Big Lebowski??
Pirates of the Carribean more votes than Rain Man?
Mulholland Dr.
Being John Malkovich (Interesing movie but 250 best all time?
Trainspotting -5 times more votes than original King Kong - a CLASSIC
Ed Wood- PLEASE
Hotel Rwanda?? Nuts
Reservoir Dogs
Fargo
American History X
Fight Club
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind

I know that some of these flicks are cults favorites. Especially on DVD like fight club..but best of all time. Holy COW!

I think "cult favorite" is just a term for a film that proves to be popular despite what the experts think. As for the three titles listed above, they are certainly among my favorites. The nice thing about the IMDB ratings is that they are a "popularity contest". Real people have to actually like a film for it to make that list. Pretty useless.....

148 total and 50 of the top 56. Looks like I could make up a bunch by buying a couple Chaplin boxsets.

I don't really have a big problem with the list. Sure it is weighted by films of the now (ex. Hero in the top 120) and films favored by the demographic that would be on the Internet to begin with (more young than old) but overall not bad.

Robertw,

Mulhollland Dr. is certainly in my top 50 all-time list. Give it another try in a few years.
