top 250: 107
bottom 100: 0 |
I have 44 of them. But there are quite a few on there I would buy if I saw them used and cheap.
|
Counting laserdiscs, I tally in at:
43 from the top 250 4 from the bottom 100 |
82 here, not counting titles that are not part of my personal collection (although those would only add 5-8 to the total). Some of them I don't have because I'm waiting on better versions.
I thought I had many of them as I started to count them down, but even though I have 56 of the top 100, I only have 25 of the next 150. I wondered why I didn't see The Decalogue. They don't count it since it was made for TV. If they did, its 9.3 rating would put it at No. 1. It has fewer votes (972) than anything on the top 100, but I did see some on the bottom 100 (which I have none of) with less than 700. Edit: number changed. I assume we are to edit our posts instead of adding new ones as we get more of them. |
I have 95.
|
I am missing these 15 titles...
1. Double Indemnity (1944) 2. The Great Escape (1963) 3. The Philadelphia Story (1940) 4. The Best Years of Our Lives (1946) 5. His Girl Friday (1940) 6. Sideways (2004) 7. To Be or Not to Be (1942) 8. Bringing Up Baby (1938) 9. Untergang, Der (2004) 10. The Lion in Winter (1968) 11. Judgment at Nuremberg (1961) 12. In the Heat of the Night (1967) 13. Sleuth (1972) 14. Tonari no Totoro (1988) 15. Million Dollar Baby (2004) (edited - missed this one) |
Well don't look at me. I don't have them either.

I have around 52, more than I thought I would, considering this is about half of my collection.
|
65. more than i thought.
|
51 I have owned about 70 of them at one time but traded and sold many of them.
|
55, and counting
|
I have 38 of them.
|
34 on the top 250 list
3 from the bottom, all MST3k versions. |
I have 46 of them.

Looks like 107 (so far). I've found the listing to be a useful resource for finding good blind buys. Occasionally I'll be disappointed, but in the vast majority of cases if I buy one off the list that sounds interesting to me it will be.

I own 137, but I've seen much more than that and some on the list I had formerly owned but do not anymore (didn't count those.) I'm pretty surprised at that number as I don't use "best of" lists as blind buys or as guides for what to watch, I just go by what I study on my own about film and my own taste. No idea I'd have that many in common, though some of those I would not call the "top films" either, just really good or great ones.

I have 147 from the top 250
and 4 from the bottom 100 |

i'm estimating that i've actually seen over 200 of them though... |
The 250 is pretty ridiculous. There are some average or decent flicks that are on the list and many older flicks are not. It is a popularity contest now. Therefore over time the newer blockbusters will eventually knock off the established movies based on number of votes.
Here are a few ridiculous titles on the list. Also I wonder about some of those obscure foreign flicks) How do they get the votes. Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels? Are they kidding The Big Lebowski?? Pirates of the Carribean more votes than Rain Man? Mulholland Dr. Being John Malkovich (Interesing movie but 250 best all time? Trainspotting -5 times more votes than original King Kong - a CLASSIC Ed Wood- PLEASE Hotel Rwanda?? Nuts Reservoir Dogs Fargo American History X Fight Club Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind I know that some of these flicks are cults favorites. Especially on DVD like fight club..but best of all time. Holy COW! |

148 total and 50 of the top 56. Looks like I could make up a bunch by buying a couple Chaplin boxsets.
I don't really have a big problem with the list. Sure it is weighted by films of the now (ex. Hero in the top 120) and films favored by the demographic that would be on the Internet to begin with (more young than old) but overall not bad. Robertw, Mulhollland Dr. is certainly in my top 50 all-time list. Give it another try in a few years. 1. 9.0 The Godfather (1972) 119,493 2. 8.9 The Shawshank Redemption (1994) 145,952 3. 8.9 The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (2003) 99,857 4. 8.8 The Godfather: Part II (1974) 70,165 5. 8.8 Shichinin no samurai (1954) 30,875 6. 8.7 Casablanca (1942) 65,229 8. 8.7 Citizen Kane (1941) 60,405 10. 8.7 Pulp Fiction (1994) 129,080 11. 8.7 The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring 154,565 12. 8.6 Star Wars (1977) 132,144 13. 8.6 The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (2002) 111,906 14. 8.6 Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back 101,929 15. 8.6 The Usual Suspects (1995) 102,049 16. 8.6 Buono, il brutto, il cattivo, Il (1966) 29,607 17. 8.6 Rear Window (1954) 40,929 18. 8.6 Dr. Strangelove (1964) 62,837 20. 8.6 Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981) 92,200 22. 8.5 Psycho (1960) 52,699 23. 8.5 Memento (2000) 88,657 24. 8.5 C'era una volta il West (1968) 16,405 25. 8.5 Fabuleux destin d'Amélie Poulain, Le (2001) 57,675 26. 8.5 Lawrence of Arabia (1962) 31,259 27. 8.5 Goodfellas (1990) 66,179 28. 8.5 The Silence of the Lambs (1991) 90,630 29. 8.5 Sunset Blvd. (1950) 15,652 30. 8.5 North by Northwest (1959) 35,749 31. 8.5 It's a Wonderful Life (1946) 41,375 32. 8.4 American Beauty (1999) 108,062 33. 8.4 Apocalypse Now (1979) 63,067 34. 8.4 The Matrix (1999) 140,191 36. 8.4 Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004) 43,157 37. 8.4 Fight Club (1999) 109,183 38. 8.4 The Third Man (1949) 17,944 39. 8.4 Sen to Chihiro no kamikakushi (2001) 23,039 40. 8.4 Vertigo (1958) 34,037 41. 8.4 Double Indemnity (1944) 11,287 42. 8.4 Singin' in the Rain (1952) 20,007 43. 8.3 Boot, Das (1981) 28,201 44. 8.3 M (1931) 11,685 45. 8.3 To Kill a Mockingbird (1962) 30,356 46. 8.3 Rashômon (1950) 11,218 47. 8.3 Se7en (1995) 86,634 48. 8.3 Taxi Driver (1976) 47,413 49. 8.3 All About Eve (1950) 12,713 50. 8.3 The Bridge on the River Kwai (1957) 21,831 52. 8.3 Requiem for a Dream (2000) 45,884 53. 8.3 The Pianist (2002) 29,910 54. 8.3 Monty Python and the Holy Grail (1975) 59,746 55. 8.3 Léon (1994) 51,190 56. 8.3 Saving Private Ryan (1998) 97,843 57. 8.3 Alien (1979) 61,758 58. 8.3 L.A. 157, although it's annoying how many I don't own solely because I'm waiting for better versions, Blade Runner being at the top of that list.

68 of them .... which was surprising
