BCI Eclipse has some news on the DVDs over at http://www.he-man.org. Biggest items that caught my eye:
- Complete series will be released in 4 box sets
- The first set – season 1 volume 1 – will be released October 18, 2005.
- Sets will be released approximately 3 months apart.
- The Christmas special will come out in 2005, just before Christmas.
It also sounds like Mattel is being a bitch and is not being very helpful. Too bad.

We will be making this announcement at San Diego Comicon, but here is an early newsflash for He-Man.org fans - $49.98 ea., 6 disc sets in really cool digipaks.

After reading the Q&A from He-Man.org, I'm kinda getting pumped about these releases. I was kinda on the fence about getting this series, but the fact that have been restored and remastered, I might grab them. I'm also thinking of collecting the 6" statue figures. Phase 1 will be released in a matter of days or so. $60 bucks for 3 really cool figures.

New Masters of the Universe Micro-statue figures coming out soon.
Two figure companies NECA and Four Horsemen are about to release the first wave of their 6" 'staction' figures from the Masters of the Universe line.
The first wave consists of:
Snout Spout

Hordak

Clawful

Second wave will consist of :
Grizzlor

Stinkor

Clamp Champ

And then there'll be an exclusive Comic-Con figure of
King Randor

You can pre-order/order the complete set of three figures from A.F.X. for just $53.99 ($17.99/each).
I've ordered a set just today. I figure (no pun intended) that these would be of quality enough to proudly display on your DVD racks, along with your movie character figures.
What's ironic is that the site where I got the shots of the old original figures from, also has pics from the old cartoon, and the old figures look more like the characters in the show than these new sculps do. But of course, Mattel originally got Filmation to do the show as more or less, just commercials for the toys. But then the show, and all of its budding animators, put more of their hearts into the show than what Mattel original intended.

Well, certainly can't deny that the new versions of the figures look better. Much more detail. Far more menacing. The new King Randor kicks ass. Stinkor looks surprisingly similar to his original incarnation.
I don't remember these characters looking like this, though, in the original series. Never really saw anything that followed. I'm just wondering about the purpose of these redesigns. Tie-in with the upcoming DVD sets? Then again, the figures in the original toy line didn't look like their animated counterparts, either.
In any event these look great. NECA and Four Horsemen have done amazing jobs. I agree with mndtrp, Buzz-Off and Two-Bad should look incredible. Hoping for many more. Would love to see Skeletor, Tri-Klops, Man-E-Faces...oh man, I'm swimming in nostalgia! This takes me back!

They've been working on these figures for quite some time. I believe it's just a coincidence that they're finally coming out at a time when the DVDs are coming out.
Why there're redoing these, I'm not sure. I haven't followed the development, but it may have to do with the recent 2002 series bringing back the nostalgia for the original series.
THX, with regards to the original figures not looking like their animated counterparts, I'd have to disagree. If you read my last paragraph in the above post, the site where I got the pics of the also had a few shots from the series and the characters look really close to their toy counterpart. Clawful, for example, has the same cheesey head in the cartoon as he does in the original figure. Same thing for the green lizard dude Whiplash. Remember the animation style back then was horrid compared to what we would get today. Even the 2002 series, wasn't all that advanced.
-------------------------------
As far as the this new "Staction" figure line, each wave of figures will contain three. One from the "Heroes", one from "Skeletor's Minions", and one from the "Horde". Heroes will have a dark blue base. Skeletor's Minions will have a dark purple base. The Horde will have a dark red base.
The exclusive King Randor figure, if you notice has a special base. There's rumor that it will be re-issued later (possibly as a re-paint) on a regular blue base.

Time passed, and Group W Productions, the owners of Filmation, eventually sold the studio to L'Oreal, the French cosmetic firm.
The speculation is that L'Oreal, far from interested in actually doing any animation, was only interested in acquiring the European rights to Filmation's library of past products... including "He-Man". Whatever the truth of the matter may be, L'Oreal was quick to shut down Filmation's future - Filmation's entire production staff was fired in one day.
"The announcement just dropped out of the blue that Friday morning," director Tom Tataranowicz recalled. " 'Put down your pencils and get out.' "
L'Oreal may have had reason to be in haste. The closure took place one day before a new federal law went into effect, a law requiring the company to give its employees 60 days' written notice before the mass firing. It appears that, in addition to having no interest in animation, L'Oreal was also more intent on saving a few bucks than it was on giving Filmation's employees any chance to brace themselves before the closing of their company.
Filmation's doors were closed, and its productions silenced, on February 3, 1989. Filmation's 230 employees, most of them animators, found themselves cast out into the street without jobs, and so it was that the doors to He-Man's future were sealed forever.

Those have all been released over the past several years by Mattel. Now that the line is dead, the new ones are being released in small quantities at specialty/comic stores. I don't know if they're rereleasing the older ones or not...
I started collecting them, but my wallet and shelf space kinda stopped me.

Mattel handled the recent MOTU figures very poorly IMO. They overproduced the He-Man figures and its different variations while limiting the less popular characters to one per box if that.
I understand limiting the lesser known characters but why do it to such an extent that you could only get those figures in Ebay at higher prices. There was no way you could complete the series unless you had connections at the toy stores or specialty stores.

I disagree. It gets a bad rap for being one, but if you actually watch the episodes will you see that basically all the episodes have the same core group of heroes, villains, and vechicles. He-Man and She-Ra were Mattel products, but Filmation had creative control over the series. Not to mention both series had great episodes from such writers as Paul Dini, Bob Forward, Michael Reaves, Larry DiTillio, and J. Michael Straczynski.
These releases sound down right awesome with a lot of effort put into them. I am sold.

I'll probably pick up this 10 "Best of" DVD to see if the show holds up and if so, think about collecting the entire series. I used to love the show, probably more than G.I Joe or Transformers, so who knows.

Anybody else picked up the Best of He-Man and the MOTU today?
I picked it up today and I'm planning to watch it later tonight. I haven't watch this show since the 80's and I want to see if it still good enough for me to get the season sets.

Yeah I snagged it, haven't watched it yet. Man, I am really impressed with the packaging, it's better than most big studio releases nowadays. Thick cardboard digipack, embossed, raised artwork, nice bonus cards inside... the whole shabang.
The 70mins of documentary interviews really sealed the deal for me, now I'm looking forward to the rest of the releases.
Gonna pick up some snacks and return to Eternia later tonight...

I have to agree with you Artman in regards to the packaging and don't forget about the insert.
Plus BCI Eclipse has indicated that they won't repeat the extras and the artwork of this Best of set for the season releases.
