I haven't given up.

I voted for this show at your site a long time ago, and I am confident that it will be released.

I hope you noticed that my language in my post was a take on the way Max talked on the show. "Would you believe......"

Thanks for responding.

I love what you and Gord do. Thanks for the great website!

Of course, couldn't miss it. I just thought that your message, however worded, might be an indication of slipping trust that this was really being looked at for DVD. I feel confident that things really are cooking, but there is still some stuff to be worked out first. But it's a lot closer, I'm sure, than - say - Adam West Batman. :)

Thanks for the compliments about the site. It's a labor of love!

FINALLY!!

Get Smart will be released in a high quality "special edition" set this fall, according to THE Get Smart site on the Web:

http://www.wouldyoubelieve.com/faq.html

All of the episodes are the original, uncut masters!
Each one has been painstakingly restored and they look amazing. Every fan will be stunned by the quality of the restoration and the beautiful look of these restored shows. Leonard Stern has seen the restored episodes and said that finally the show can be seen the way it was meant to be seen.
There are almost two hours of bonus materials on every season set.
Barbara Feldon, Buck Henry, and Mel Brooks will be offering commentary in the season one set and there's more amazing commentaries on the following seasons.
Each season set will feature original features, never before seen footage, and bloopers! Yes, bloopers have been unearthed and they're fabulous!!

JOE29 06-16-06 03:08 PM

I'll be getting this for sure. Needless to say I won't be dealing in any ebay copies, i'm waiting for the real thing,

Trevor 06-18-06 01:26 PM

If only they had done some Don Adams commentaries before we lost him..... :(

Any Get Smart updates?

I haven't seen anything posted at the TimeLife website here in the states or there site in Australia where it has been rumored that it will be released in September. Will they be coming out with one season at a time or all five seasons at the same time?

you should check out tvshowsondvd.com (or http://www.tvshowsondvd.com/showinfo.cfm?ShowID=1884 for specific news for get smart) for latest info..

they've reported fall 2006 (which is obviously sometime before the end of this year) ..it has not been said if it will be sold on a per season basis or all at once, but my guess would be one per season, also time life will have a 1 year exclusive on it, so I imagine it'll probably be one season per year or every 9 months or something unless sales go through the roof..but that's all guesses on my part..

Update:

tvshowsondvd.com is reporting that Time-Life will be releasing all 5 seasons of the show as one complete collection. You can only order this set from Time-Life for the next year as they have exclusive rights. Also, tvshowsondvd.com is reporting that they seems to think that they are uncut episodes. You can order the set now and they will start shipping the sets on 11/13/06. They will also be releasing individual season sets later on.

$199.99

that's for all five seasons, which works out to $40 each. That's not that bad, all things considering. TL will sell em for $40 each individually. I wonder what they MSRP will be in the store when it comes out..

pilot 09-15-06 12:44 PM

They've had 20% off coupons in the past..

right now I see the following coupons:

EMLX15 15% off $40 or more Exp 09/16/06
LKMD59 15% off $75 or more Exp 09/30/06

15% off takes $29.99 off, shipping is apparently free, but I'm charged tax ($15.30), total would be $185.27

They charge tax in IL, IN, NY, PA, and VA ..so if you're charged tax it'd be like ~$37/each, if you're not charged tax, about ~$34/each

DrOBoogie1 09-15-06 03:30 PM

You can also order through the WouldYouBelieve.com web site:

http://www.wouldyoubelieve.com/dvd.html

http://www.timelife.com/checkout/micro.jsp?pageId=1183

Even without the discounts, this seems a pretty good deal to me. These sets seem jam-packed with extras, and I'm told the visual quality is outstanding.

I've already ordered mine. Along with the 1966 Batman, this is my single most wanted DVD. I am thrilled that we can get the whole series in one set. And the packaging looks pretty cool too!

Pilot, thanks for the coupons.

I just ordered the Get Smart set, along with The Odd Couple: Season One (another Time-Life exclusive) using their four-easy-payments plan. While it's nice that you can split the attack on your wallet, based on the information at the Time-Life site, it looks like they do an "Overstock.com" and treat pre-orders as "pre-sells/special orders" so they can charge your CC before the item(s) actually ships (Can someone can confirm/rebut this?)

Personally, I'd also like to commend the people behind the Get Smart release. It's nice for someone to offer the complete series, with all the extras, upon the initial release, rather than trying for force the real fans into "double-dipping" on "ultimate" collections if they want all the bells and whistles, like Fox is with its upcoming M*A*S*H* set.

SeattleSteve 09-15-06 04:04 PM

I encourage all of you to click on the following link to pre-order your DVD set of GetSmart (it ships in November):

www.wouldyoubelieve.com/dvd.html

Why?

Because this link earns credits for Carl Birkmeyer of www.WouldYouBelieve.com

Carl has been promoting Get Smart for YEARS and he deserves to make a couple bucks on the sale of the DVD sets.

You don't pay any more by using Carl's link and it's a nice way to say thanks to Carl for doing a good job.

I bought mine today.

I looked at TimeLife just the other week to see if there was anything announced there about this, disappointed not to see anything at that time. I guess you can say 'I missed it by THAT much'! Glad to see Get Smart finally getting an opportunity to join the ranks of some of my favorite classic TV shows of all time... in fact this is one of my all time favorites overall. Thanks for the news.

SeattleSteve 09-15-06 05:00 PM

It's been a LONG wait ..

Notice that I started this thread more than TWO YEARS ago!

Only two more months to go!

mzupeman2 09-15-06 05:01 PM

...and not just for a first season either, but the whole collection. I can't begin to explain just how much that exites me. That's going to hurt a bit on the wallet though as I'm just in the process of moving but I'm sure I'll find a way... Christmas is right around the corner too.

Damfino 09-15-06 05:34 PM

I just got my order in! Not bad with the coupon (thanks Pilot!)

I'm even warming up to the idea of Steve Carrell as Maxwll Smart (my first post to this thread 2 years ago was before The Office, so I now think he could be up to the challenge)

Peep 09-15-06 07:41 PM

So, are we to assume that $200 is full MSRP and if we wait a year, we might see much better prices? I have so much backlogue of unwatched TV that I'm more than happy to wait.

Cool that it's coming out, though.

Cameron 09-15-06 07:43 PM

my guess is that the complete series set will be exclusive to the website, and a year down the road you will see them release this season by season for 40-60 msrp a season

I ordered mine with the 15% coupon, lump sum. Thanks!

This is pretty smart on Time-Life's part since most people drop out after a set or two. I was a diehard subscriber to Columbia House series' and always finished the sets. When I sold them on ebay the first couple tapes would bring a couple bucks and then steadily increase to $30-50 per tape for the end ones because so few were made and sold.

jmurphy56 09-16-06 12:59 PM

I just got off the phone with TimeLife customer service. I had placed my order yesterday after reading this thread, but noticed in my email confirmation that the state code in my address was screwed up & I thought I'd better iron it out so that there'd be no delay in getting "Smart."

We double & triple checked and there was no record of my order. In fact, the service rep told me, all orders placed on 9/15 through the TimeLife website were automatically canceled due to some "misleading information" on their website. She didn't know what that information might have been.

So, you'd all be advised to contact TimeLife to make sure your orders are actually in.
