bummer...

mzupeman2 11-30-06 11:38 AM

Well, the laugh track is a little obnoxious after a while, but the show still retains its original charms from the days they first aired. If you enjoyed the show before, I personally enjoy reliving this series for nostalgia, than something like Thundercats and GI Joe which I've grown out of. Get Smat is still how it's always been for me. I'm watching my set... and loving it. Come on, you knew that pun was coming.

Barabera Feldon introduces via audio every episode, and there's also a commentary track here and there. Can't say much, as I'm only on the third disc of season 1. So far so good though.

MasterofDVD 11-30-06 12:01 PM

This set would of been my Xmas gift to myself had it not been for the Lost figures coming out. I had to pick between the two and the DVDs will hopefully easier to find in a year than the figures would of been.

misterchimpy 12-01-06 12:09 AM

I'm on the 2nd disc of the 1st season...it's definitely good so far.

1) It is so cool that Barbara Feldon introduces every episode. It's usually just a plot summary and a little trivia, but it is just great.

2) The pilot commentaries with Buck Henry and Mel Brooks are good, both obviously had a very deep love for the series.

3) Cone of Silence!

4) I definitely have a better appreciation for Edward Platt and Barbara Feldon, they both really have great comic timing.

5) Some of the humor is a little dated, especially the ethnic stuff, it's a little painful in places. But overall it's great...

Thx to OP for the coupon!

misterchimpy 12-08-06 03:31 PM

Just a bump, if you ordered this you may want to check and see if all of the disks are there. As it turned out, I have 2 copies of disk 3 from season 3, i am missing disk 2. I called Time Life and they said that they will send a replacement, but of course, since the set is now backordered they could not give me an eta....

That was the first thing I did. Seems ok. I didn't stick them in to make sure what's printed on the disc is what's recorded on the disc though.

For those who missed the last 20% off code there is a new one out:

EMTL99 expires 11:59 PM Eastern Time on Saturday, December 9th

Albert71292 12-09-06 11:53 AM

Luckily, I saw a commercial on TV last night for Season One, released individually. Asking price was $29.99. Buying the entire series at once would be a strain on my finances!

did you happen to have the phone number for it? thanks

i86time 12-09-06 10:28 PM

I've been checking out disc 1 the past few days, and so far I'm really impressed. Also remember with the 20% off coupon, it comes to $160 ($32/ season) w/o shipping or tax and you can break it up in 4 payments. Though I don't have any past experience w/ Timelife, I'd bet they'll at least charge shipping for the single season releases. So if you're pretty sure you'll be picking up all seasons, it's definitely cheaper to do the full set w/ a coupon. No, I'm not a schill... I think.

That's what I did. Used coupon EMLBMSM at checkout (expires 12/31) for a 20% off. Total came up to $159.97 and I did the 4 payments option. I though I had to apply for a credit card with them, but no. I like! Season 1 is $29.99 and they charge $5.99 s&h. So, if you are buying all of them, buy the 5 season set in 4 payments ($40 each one).

I've used http://www.wouldyoubelieve.com/dvd.html link to buy it.

Backordered

Finally got around to ordering season one on December 19th, and wouldn't you know it... it's on "backorder". Looks like Time-Life didn't anticipate demand...

JOE29 01-03-07 08:19 PM

It shouldn't take that long when on backorder. That happend to me when I orderd Season 1 last month. It maybe took a week or two to get my copy, they didn't even send me an e-mail confirmation that they sent out the set to me it just appeared at my door which was a surprise because I was looking for the e-mail confirmation that never came. By the way, Season 1 is great, it was worth the wait.

I emailed customer service today, waiting for a reply. Seems the amount charged was credited back to my card recently.

anyone have any available working coupons at this point for time life? I can't afford the whole set, but I'd love to start with season one.

Thanks in advance.

A Credit Card? That sucks. The Sony card provided by Chase gives you a $100 credit the month after the first time that you used it, so you could have applied for a card from them and gotten the entire series for about $60.

Well I have to throw out there just how great this whole set is. The review on this website covered it well and gave it the review it deserved. I'm just surprised not many people here have been talking about it... so many people wanted this! Absolutely magnificent set.

dvd-4-life 01-11-07 10:43 AM

Any news on when season 2 will be available for release thru TimeLife?

I've been waiting for this to come out, but am SO far behind in my DVD watching that I am holding off for now.

But is there any reason not to wait? This Time-Life set is only exclusive temporarily right? Eventually, the same exact set will be available everywhere, and probably cheaper, right?

Albert71292 01-13-07 12:45 PM

Finally got Season 1

Went out to the mailbox this morning, the season one I ordered on Dec.19th was in there...
http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k1...292/smart1.jpg
Plan on starting to watch it this evening, beginning with the "bonus features" as I always do with new DVDs.
