Worst ever packaging for me:
Pearl Harbor Vista Series - not only does it not protect the disks but it goes out of its way to scratch them to hell
The Evil Dead: The Book of the Dead: Limited Edition Rubber Book version - Ditto
It doesn't get much worse than those two. You can say what you like about packaging being fat, thin, or whatever, but if you can't actually use the packaging, then you're on to a loser.

Anyway, how about that Curb Your Enthusiasm: Season 1 box? It's like they intentionally set out to come up with some off-the-wall box design that no one had ever thought of before just for the sake of doing it. I've had people come over and almost tear it in half just trying to figure out how it opened (and I'll admit it took me a few seconds as well).

Are digipacks those super-thin ones that are often used in cheap TV series box sets? If so, I *hate* those, as the hub has *no* teeth on it - or anything else toi hold the discs in, and so and DVDs are constantly falling out.
See the Popular and Keen Eddie box sets for examples.

Snappers, Hate them,
But the worst thing I hate is the way that FOX puts the shrinkwrap on their cases, everytime I open one the glue residue and the shrinkwrap seems stuck to the spine and it won't come off, ruins the case.

The only cases I've run across so far that I hate are the snappers, but even they aren't so bad as long as you keep tham all together on your shelf. As far as everything else, I actually prefer the wider packs such as Clerks, Dogma, so on, they look nicer on the shelf then the regular amaray cases, and they are special editions so they should look nicer. Also, Band of Brothers has one of the coolest cases ever, who cares if it is slightly taller than a standard dvd case. If you are having so many problems fitting these on your shelf then you have a crappy shelving system and need to look into changing that, not complaining about the best packaging dvd's come in!

"Battle Royale" Starmax was very ordinary. the "Kill Bill vol. 1" Japan LE is very cool though.
1. Asians go nuts for packaking of any kind, not only DVD packaging.
2. Offering a more attractive product helps fight piracy, which is rampant in Asia.

I'm mixed on these...
Total Recall circular tin: yeah it's odd, but has a cardboard stand to stack it like a mornal DVD cover
Good/Bad/Ugly: If it wasn't so damn tall, this packaging would ROCK, they treated this movie very well.
E.T. again the no-spine part sucks, but the see through front w/ the DVD full-moon art is awesome.
So if you guys had it your way, would everything come in a dull amary case, no special packaging??
I guess I'm different in that respect, I just got in the R2 UK hellraiser cube because I thought it was cool.
Anyone got a large cyclon-head BSG season set that "they hate", I'll take it off your hands!

I'm with you. I'm not a fan at all of thin packs and would prefer digipacks to those anyday. By the way, examples of digipacks are "Friends," "Fresh Prince," "The West Wing," "Will and Grace," "All in the Family" and many, many others -- even the new 4 disc set of "Gone With the Wind."

I hate the packaging for all of the HBO programs that I own. Sopranos, Six Feet Under, Mr. Show, Band of Brothers. They are all awful. Regular Thinpaks in a sturdy outerbox is good enough for me.

I really have no problem with pakaging....nothing to invest time with as far as making an effort to complain. Most of my titles are sealed in protective sleeves so damage is something that just does not happen with my library. If it did, I'd be the first to bitch about it, trust me. Now when someone glances over my library here at my home....many will ask how I can stand those big bulky cases for X-Rated Kult Video dvds. Because they feature some of the best art ever? Yes!

I love those double-alpha cases, so much so I've bought a box of them to convert some of my other cases - they just have such a nice look on your shelf.
One case I really hate is the Scanvo - they did a custom green one for HULK, which had the hulk logo embossed on the inside, behind the insert clips. Unfortunately the two discs sat ON TOP OF EACH other, meaning you had to remove one disc, to get to another.
Double-Amarays - that's the only way to do single-dvd cases in my opinion.

Saw - Without the slip it's just a clear case.
Once upon a time in Mexico - The slip cover sucks! If you toss it there is no title on the spine so you have to keep the slip.

Compared to the kind used for "Sex and the City," snappers are the lesser of the two evils. I really dislike the plastic packaging because it's not very practical. It feels like if you open it once too many times, the plastic lid will snap off. The hubs that hold the discs also break quite easily.

i posted this in the slipcovers thread, but one of my biggest gripes is not even a eratin type of packaging; rather, whats on it. I hate it when stores feel the need to put their big ass, ugly stickers all over the cover or slipcover, sometimes even covering the movie title. It just erks the hell out of me, as if the thing belongs to them and they dont want you to touch it so they put crap all over it. There's no point in it. Just pujt the price and add a sign ontop of the rack or something if you want to say "New release!" or "Lowest Price Evar Pwn3d!"

DVD players can actually damage discs - this happens more often than people think. You'll have a disc that played flawlessly the first time you watched it, but then, a bit later, you go to watch it again and it doesn't play right, even though it never left it's case - sometimes a dvd might spin in its tray, creating tiny little scuff, that can be enough to effect play-back - even top-tier dvd players have trays that can and DO damage discs.

You are right...but I'm one of the few that really takes care and preserves the library. I examine my discs carefully....and on a regular basis. I have found that 99% of the time, if a dvd goes bad....its because it was born bad at the plant, ie...poor qauilty control.
Anyway...we're talking about the cases , not the discs.
