I'd hardly consider that stuff a waste of an hour

great guilty pleasure film
I've had the "fool screen" laserdisc for years. Never once watched it. I just got it because some website was unloading it for two bucks. They actually sent me two copies if anyone wants the other one.

so we know where 'corey' and the lovely redhead 'hailey' went (careers).. but what ever happened to jimmy and lucas?

i saw this movie in the theatre as well, and yes i was about 10 too.. i remember a huge gasp in the audience when at the game tournament the electronic doors opened to reveal super mario bros. 3. if i remember correctly (as a former nintendo power subscriber =) that was the first time the game was ever introduce to the general public.. awesome to do it that way.

It'd be REALLY cool if someone could do a parody/remake of this movie taking place in the late 70s, where they go to an Atari contest.

Hmmm. Well 'Lucas' (Jackey Vinson) hasn't done much according to IMDB.

Luke Edwards, I remember him from Little Big League and I Know My First Name Is Steven (made before Wizard)...

Wish I knew how to make a recording of that audio on that flash page... The site says it was last updated 2003, and some of those links are broken, looks like the site owner gave up on it... Too bad.

I remember reading somewhere that Luke and everyone had to play Nintendo games like crazy to get good... They played SM3 for weeks before filming.

It's said it was a blooper of sorts that Haley knows about the warp whistle? Well she calls it a magic flute, so that's wrong, but...

It's been said that the Nintendo Power mag didn't talk about this 'cheat' until months later.

So...

She was visibly upset when the moderator said the finalists would be playing a new game, but maybe she had been told a few things about the game by the Nintendo Power expert she talked to for seemingly hours... (That service was expensive! How could they afford it? Spanky only got them $390!)

EDIT: just found this site ----Wizard vs. Rain Man

And here is a message board devoted to the film, but it has VERY little activity...

Was browsing the Universal press site and found something that might interest fans of The Wizard. Universal Studios is planning on releasing it on August 29th with a 1.85:1 Anamorphic Widescreen transfer. I highly doubt that there will be any special features because it will be released on a DVD-5 disc.

I've posted the specs that were on their site on dvdnn.com

Yeah, I'd definitely pick this up. The very definition of "guilty pleasure".

No playable Nintendo games as extras?

Sadly, I'll buy the DVD.

What if this is a sly way of announcing the Wii release date? Maybe they'll include a bonus scene of Jimmy showing us a Super Mario Galaxy secret.
