having said that, I'd still like to know why you don't like epics.

That doesn't mean I refuse to watch them does it? Can't I be a fan of one genre over another? How ridiulous is it that these views need explanation? To each their own.
Please don't take my asking as a personal attack, I was just curious. Like cygnet74 said, it is an odd thing to say and then avoid explaining further. I've never heard anyone say that before, especially about such a popular genre.

I just bought a copy of Back to School because my previous copy was lost.
On my copy it says 16:9 Widescreen 1:85:1 Theatrical Release Format, but does not say 16:9 enhanced. Where exactly should it say 16:9 enhanced? Could you post a picture? If I got the bad version I can return it for the proper one because have not opened the dvd yet.

The Goodtimes release of the 1949 film 'Jet Pilot' is a perfect example of 'Fake Widescreen'. Filmed at the industry standard of 1:37 to 1, it was held up (due to Howard Hawks tinkering with the aerial scenes) being released until 1957.
I have both the Universal LD release and the Goodtimes DVD release. A side-by-side comparison of the two presentations shows that the DVD version just has black bars laying across the top and bottom of the image, and adding nothing to the sides. This is not a case of an 'open matte' release by Universal, just a rotten presentation by Goodtimes.

There's a scene where Spencer Tracy has his mother and daughter talking to each other via phone (one phone being held up to another phone), and there is a police captain who walks in the room. Well, when you notice the dialogue between Tracy and the captain, it is very clear you are supposed to be seeing the phones! But, you can't! They've been chopped off the bottom of the screen.
There are many other scenes which would have been more entertaining if they weren't chopped.

From: Right now, my location is DVDTalk, but then again, you should already know that, shouldn't you?
SWR 1, if the back refers to having both the Theatrical Trailer and a Collectible Booklet, you have the old, jacked-up version; if the back mentions ONLY a theatrical trailer as the sole special feature, then you're good to go!

The "Front Row Entertainment" version of Sonny Chiba's "Shogun's Ninja" is a fake widescreen. The box says Widesceen Edition in big letters. Instead it's a pan & scan videotape with black bars dropped on the top and bottom. All that's left of the movie is the middle 25% of the screen. It's really appalling.
I keep telling my wife not to buy the bargain-brand disks.

My copy only says Original Theatrical Trailer, so I guess I got the corrected version. Thank you for your help Filmmaker.
