The only problem is that in recent years Lynch has developed a very strong dislike of surround sound. The "5.1" mix on Wild at Heart only uses 3.1 of the channels. There is no surround activity at all. The original 2-channel mix on the same disc has a lot more surround envelopment. I expect he'd do the same for Lost Highway.

The German DVD is the best version I've seen/heard.
The Australian disc is OK but no better.
I can't believe fans of this great film can wait and wait. If you don't want to pay for the German disc at least go for the UK disc which is on £5.97 special at www.amazon.co.uk They will take the tax off that if you are outside the EU.
I note there's a new DVD due in Germany. Looks like it's part of a budget range from Universal-Vivendi (who now seem to own the rights again). The US rights may be slighlty more complicated but they will eventually revert to Universal-Vivendi (although MGM may have a claim).
€9.99 looks very attractive for this film.

A great transfer both visually and sound-wise. A thunderous 5.1 soundtrack that I can never imagine to be bettered.
It just rocks.
The UK/Australian discs are just poor transfers in comparison. Simple.

As I recall, isn't the audio out of sync on the German disc?

Aside from the really crappy cover on the "new" German disc -- and the big EUR 10,00 reduction in price -- is there any difference between the two German DVDs?
The "original" German DVD

The "new" German DVD

And does anyone think the Portuguese disc is better?

You guys like messing about.
Lost Highway is on sale (for over 5 years!) at Amazon.de for 9.90 euros (US$13). I know shipping is expensive but you could buy a load and sell them on or shove Downfall (2 disc version) in your basket to ease the pain of the high shipping.
I don't believe any real fan of Lost Highway can wait and wait and wait.

Daniel, I don't think you understand what we're asking...
The original release that came out in 2000 costs 19.99 euros, and the new release that came out earlier this month is 9.90 euros (see links above). Hence the question: any difference between the two?

The technical information (maybe no 5min interview) is exactly the same:
Infos zu diesem Titel
• Sprachen: Deutsch (Dolby Digital 5.1) Englisch (Dolby Digital 5.1)
• Untertitel: Deutsch, Englisch
• Bildformat: 16:9, 2.35:1
• Dolby, Surround Sound, PAL
• Laufzeit: 135 Minuten
Das ist es.

Doesn't really look like a review to me, but it said this (translated with Altavista):
so I think it sounds similar to the expensive release for extra features.
Beautiful Digipack with film review from the South German newspaper and a short Making OF... as well as szenenbildern and short information to the film

I'm a fan, and I can wait and wait.

I'm a fan of Lost Highway as well, but I aint interested in getting an open region player. There just arent that many movies in other regions that arent already in R1 that interest me...LH will come to R1 in due time..until then, I have:
Blue Velvet
Mulholland Drive
Firewalk With Me
Wild at Heart
to warp my wittle mind....

I have the original LOST HIGHWAY DVD release (in the uber-retarded Super Jewel case that broke somewhere over the Atlantic) and the English Audio IS out of sync...
In a weird way it actually kinda makes the film more creepy.
