Bummer. I've never seen the movie, but was looking forward to it.
BTW, it's weird that they haven't announced any new Centennial Collection releases yet, since they've been releasing them every two months, and the most recent ones just came out last week. I hope they haven't already given up on the Centennial Collection, now that I've decided to collect them all.

I knew it was too good to be true:
Our original source regarding The African Queen was wrong and it is not on the schedule for this October. Our studio source also cannot confirm its impending release. Sorry for the hub bub.

EDIT: My apologies for the bump, I followed a link from another topic, and couldn't control myself at the bad news...

Here's some news we think is pretty exciting: We've confirmed with our sources that Paramount is - at long last - finally preparing The African Queen: Centennial Collection with a tentative street date of 10/13 (date subject to change). [Editor's Note: We had direct confirmation on the record from the studio earlier this year that they were working on the transfer, but this is the first word we've had of the final release.]

Just dropping in because Amazon suddenly lists it as a valid pre-order, both DVD and Blu-Ray. No date, but it's a good sign.
I asked Amazon about 4 years ago to notify me if it ever came up, and they did. Yay.

It is insignificant.
Amazon has had the current season of curb your enthusiasm for pre order since the season began.
They can put whatever movie they want up for order, what does it mean.
Amazon could put a complete and unedited version of WKRP up for order, wouldn't mean anything.
All it is is a place holder nothing else.

Then why don't they have every movie and TV show available to buy? Heck, that means they could just throw up The Wonder Years, Song of the South, and everything else. I think the fact that there's actually a price does mean something.

I might as well check out at my local Fye and see if they still have that import copy I saw months ago. It's probably won't have the best PQ , but better than nothing. Paramount is letting me down.

It doesn't.
Why would amazon know something no other retailer knows.
All you can do is use that link to pre order it and hopefully lock in a price and hope it doesn't get cancelled again.

I bit the bullet a while back and picked up the Katharine Hepburn Centenary Collection R2 ITV DVD. The collection also contains The Iron Petticoat, On Golden Pond and an interview with Clive James. The African Queen dvd contains trailer, biographies, stills and posters and a commentary by Jack Cardiff. The picture quality is certainly watchable and does not detract from the movie. Of course I would like this movie to receive a restoration that it deserves. The collection is the size of a normal dvd case and is reasonably priced.
To go to your grave without seeing this movie would be a shame. The chemistry between Hepburn and Bogart is excellent and the location shooting adds to why this picture has the reputation it does.

Well hopefully Amazon is on to something. DVDAF also has it listed as "Not Yet Announced" for release date, but shows the same picture as Amazon and lists it part of the Paramount Centennial Collection.
