Just to get things back off topic (my apologies), I'm going to go against the tide and say that Scorsese did, indeed, give the best directorial effort this year. Eastwood mainly just mimicked what Scorsese did in Raging Bull (with his fight scenes), and everything aside from that was dim lighting and "gritty" camerawork. Seen it.

Meanwhile, Scorsese was busy making The Aviator come alive. His love for the era truly shone through in that film, and I honestly agree with those that claim that nobody else could have directed The Aviator and come away with half as good of a film. MDB, all of it's faults aside, simply isn't that challenging of a picture...not in contrast to The Aviator.

to get beat by a boxing movie....what a kick in the face....

animatedude 02-23-05 05:13 PM

Thats news to me! Are you sure its anamorphic? I mean it could be a typo, it has been seen before.

Shazam 02-23-05 05:42 PM

The current Casino is anamorphic and DD5.1

Dog Doc 02-27-05 02:11 AM

I think the best version I've seen is the french version in cinemascope. disc i is dubbed in french, disc 2 is original w/ subititle, disc 3 is supplements. no commentary tho. but a cool booklet w/ notes and interview w/ scorsese and deniro.

cover art up at DVD Answers

Oh man, that's some classy cover-art. Looks a lot like the Goodfellas-SE. I'll pick this one for sure.

animatedude 02-28-05 06:48 PM

wouldn't be just perfect if they released this special edition of Casino with some Scorsese's early shorts like The Big Shave ,Street Scenes ,Italianamerican & Made in Milan? or maybe iam just dreaming.

DavidH 02-28-05 07:39 PM

According to DVD Answers, it's going to be "a fully remastered transfer." I'm going to hold onto the current disc just in case it's not until I read some reputable reviews.

I hope the transfer is an improvement. I will be picking this up if it is.

I hate to be negative, but I think that is too much material for a single disc release. Three 5.1 tracks on a three hour film along with the listed extra material doesn't give me a lot of hope for a quality release.

Yup, couldn't agree more. I'm firmly hanging on to my original copy for now. I've seen Universal screw too many releases up and the ONLY thing that would make me upgrade is the promised better PQ. Those extras don't interest me at all.

JoeyOhhhh 03-08-05 09:33 PM

No DTS? I'm surprised.

I'll wait to see if its worth it or not

RyoHazuki 03-08-05 09:42 PM

No commentary? What a bunch o' crap.

You would think that if Marty has time to do a Red Shoes Commentary...or the set up...then he could do one for this...so sad if it isn't there
