Great news. Hopefully there's an Alexander Payne/Jim Taylor commentary. I enjoyed their "Citizen Ruth" and "Election" ones. The Paul Giamatti/Thomas Haden Church one should be good.

Would this be a good blind-buy?

I'd love to see a tie in with the complete Ned and Stacy.

It's a damn good movie, and definetly one worth buying. It will garner some awards come Oscar night, but in my prediction, will not win the Huge prize. That will be a fight between Martin Scorcese's "The Aviator" and Clint Eastwood's "Million Dollar Baby". It will be darn close. My prediction is "The Aviator" wins Best director, and Million Dollar Baby" wins Best Picture.

I don't think they airbrushed the actors enough. What are they trying to do, pretend this is a teen comedy?

I like the cover. I'm glad they kept the bottle from the poster. The green looks nice as well.

I didn't hate the movie, but there's very little new or interesting in it. There are many funny moments, most courtesy of Paul Giamatti, but the film fails exactly where most romances do--in its hackneyed, misogynistic portrayal of gender roles. None of the female characters has anything remotely resembling an arc; the two female leads are just static, thirtysomething bimbos waiting patiently for the men to change, grow, and make decisions so they can jump in bed with them. Really disappointing.

This is probably fodder for another thread, but illennium, I believe you missed the entire point of the movie.

Good to hear, I got a feeling this is gonna be one of those titles that gets funnier the more times you watch it.

I loved the film, and it had it's funny moments, but in no way did I think that this was a comedy.

that's funny. i've had a few girlfriends who claimed they felt static, waiting for for me to change, grow, make decisions.

Another "gem" I've not yet seen. Paul Giamatti however is one of the most incredibly talented and under recognized actors of this generation. Everything I have seen him in I have enjoyed because of what he brought to the film. (including but not limited to his portrayal as "Pig-Vomit") "Big Liar" notwithstanding, his name attached to a film is an automatic purchase for me.

I'd say no. The movie is definitely not for everyone. While well-made and well-acted, it is a very different kind of movie that everyone will not appreciate. My fiancee liked it a lot; I didn't. I appreciated the movie as good cinema, but I found myself intensely disliking the main characters, and by the end, I was so disengaged that I didn't care what happened to them.

If you haven't seen it, I suggest renting before you buy.
