Saw uncut with 8 extra seconds, yes 8 seconds!

It appears both the R rated U.S version and uncut U.K version are being released in the U.K next month.

The BBFC has the running times listed in PAL speed and it turns out, only a measely 8 seconds seperates the two versions!

http://www.bbfc.co.uk/website/Classi...3?OpenDocument

So I assume the supposed 100 minute running time of the R rated version is incorrect? Since the BBFC list the uncut version in NTSC as 102 minutes 12 seconds. So if 8 seconds is the only difference between the two. The U.S version should run 102 minutes 4 seconds.

But I can see where the confusion between how much was cut came from. In this case,I would just get the R rated version when released since the cuts are very small.

Though it does seem to be a huge waste for studios to make two versions of films when the differences are so small. They should use seemless branching in those cases. Since you can bet your ass, once Lions Gate releases it uncut in the U.S(if they do). Many will cry 'rip-off' since the difference may be hardly noticeable expect for those watching closely.

I always felt that the one thing that could save this thoroughly mediocre film was an additional 8 seconds of gore.

Thanks for the heads up.

I guess they're adding back in the deleted scene where Jigsaw forces the characters to ride a bull to escape.

You know, it actually helps to read the article, so you know what you are talking about. PAL speed up wouldn't be a factor here because it isn't comparing NTSC to PAL versions. Plus, the difference in PAL to NTSC would be a lot more than just 8 seconds.

Saw Uncut With Extra 8 Seconds

That makes for a weird double-feature.

now as I understand it, the Region 1 disc will be the theatrical R-rated cut while the Region 2 UK edition will be the unrated complete cut, right (?), so unless you have the ability to view other region DVD's this is pretty much a null topic.

I had a problem viewing the site, that is the reason i did not read it. And what i meant was that the pal extended cut could have been 8 seconds longer than the theatrical ntsc cut.

It isnt just cuts made to change the film, the sound was changed, the picture was changed to darken and lighten it to stop it being as disturbing and some was reframed too or blured, apparently

guess we will see when someone does a dvd comparison.

I wonder if that means they've shortened or dubbed over Cary Elwes' hilarious moaning scene.

Damn, that was so (unintentionally) funny!!!
Half the people in the theatre (including myself) were laughing there asses off, while the other half was pissed off at us.
I'm always courteous during a movie, but I lost it during that.
Laughed so hard I started crying!
Good stuff!

And of course R1 remains cut. Sigh

But 8 seconds were cut just to get an R? Pretty ridiculous.

Look at Robocop. The "R" version is only a few seconds shorter than the uncut. They were able to pack alot of gore in those few seconds.

That scene was pretty funny. I think it would have been alot better if they let Elwes have his British accent instead of an American one.

Hmm, I was pretty sure Robocop was trimmed by about a minute (from the obvious shooting scene). IMDb says 102 mins V. 103 mins, which obviously doesn't say much.

It's not that great, but perhaps worth a buy. The acting is bad to mediocre, and I always wanted to get back to the bathroom scenes (the core of the film). Danny Glover's role seems so superfluous and useless.
I expected this to be a lot gorier, though. Maybe those 8 seconds will help

I love the film and will buy it cut in R1. Ive seen the uncut 8 seconds and its just more of the foot cutting off and Amanda going through the guys stomach and pulling out the key. thats about it as far as I have seen video of.

This was in the imdb.coms trivia section..

The MPAA originally rated the film NC-17, due to the film's tone which director James Wan had to remove some content to secure an R rating.

Shots cut in the R-rated version, according to director James Wan and screen-writer/actor Leigh Whannell, included ones of Amanda sifting through the intestines, the fat guy struggle through the barb wire just to shorten the scene, and some forensic ones. The color was made more even and the sound was altered because the MPAA had problems with the tone of the original cut shown in Sundance.

If is this correct, then the tampering with the picture is more severe than 8 seconds of cuts. In that case, they better release the uncut version immediately..and I am going to not bother with the upcoming dvd.

Scream is a good example. Minor cuts that don't make a huge difference, but the unaltered soundmix creates a completely different experiance. Which is missing from the altered R rated mix which is surpressed abit to be 'less itense'.
