It's worth the price guys. The production value of this show alone are worth spending the extra $$$. And once you're finished with it, you can sell it and get a decent amount back.

I still haven't watched the last two episodes, so I am contemplating a purchase. Most likely I'll rent the last disc and purchase the set later when I can find it for a lower price.

Reading the reviews of the show and the fact that I like Westerns, I preordered the set from Amazon.ca. This will be a blind buy for me.

However, I'm having second thoughts of buying this set right away and maybe go to Costco or other B&M places to find a better deal because of the high place.

Is this a realistic wester or more like a surreal wester ala twin peaks ( i am not saying twin peaks is a western) , or is it like carnivale.

If you like westerns, you will absolutely love deadwood (as long as you have seen more than say young guns 1 and 2). One word of note, if you were weaned on old hollywood westerns, the language and grit of deadwood will definately be surprising to you. It gives the show an entirely real feel to it. Nothing is glossed over. The town is filthy, the characters are rough and cutthroat. It is totally believable in the context of what that town must have been like. Do not hesitate to blind buy.

Also, the show does use real life characters, and does stay true to their comings and goings in deadwood. Thus dont be surprised when your favorite characters get wiped out or leave. My friend explains it best. The only true character in deadwood, is deadwood itself. The series is all about the town. The people and characters are window dressing. Enjoy the characters while they are there.

I just picked up this badboy yesterday, so I thought I'd chime in and let ya'll know how fucking cool the packaging is. First of all, it's huge - I hope you have room on your shelf, it's about twice as thick as a Sopranos set, so it'll definitely stand out.

It comes in a very nice, very thick/sturdy clam shell (sorta like The Next Generation sets, but much nicer). It looks and feels like a hard-cover book, and the paper texture is very nice - kinda like Carnivale's, but sturdier. Then inside the shell is your standard, 6-panel digi-pack, but the art-work, color scheme and paper texture make it seem much nicer. The episodes are all on discs 1-5, with the 6th disc devoted to the extras. At 90 minutes worth, not including commentaries, this set has the most extras I've ever seen for an HBO release.

It is realistic. Almost too realistic.
