Tommy Boy 2-disc SE

On the previews for Without A Paddle, one of the previews is for a new 2-disc SE of Tommy Boy. Doesn't give exact specs or date, but it will a nice pickup for me.

Libby 01-14-05 10:18 PM

Sweet. Hopefully more news becomes available soon.

Al Padrino 01-14-05 10:39 PM

Easily one of my favorite comedies ever and one of the best examples of a movie with incredible replay value. I'm all over this.

Dabaomb 01-14-05 10:49 PM

good news, glad that I held off on the barebones version

TNAJason 01-14-05 11:48 PM

No question mark! Snap!

:jawdrop:
Did I catch a niner in there? OMFG! I am in shock right now. Unbelievable.

I didn't think this movie would ever be re-released. Wow.

This and Christmas Vacation are tied for my all time favorite comedies.

"That was.... Awesome!" (news) This is the single best DVD news of 2005 I can imagine!

chileorgullo 01-15-05 12:07 AM

is it the tenth anniversary already?

Cameron 01-15-05 12:52 AM

anybody else think this is a weird movie for a 2 discer. I'm not trying to flame this movie...just saying that Paramount has a a lot of other films out there that are considered classics...Elephant man, Chinatown, Nashville...then they have cult movies like barbarella and targets...just a weird pick for a 2 discer when they have so many other titles to double dip on...

guess more people would like to see farley do his thing....just hope this opens the door for more paramount special editions down the road...

Same thought here.I can only wonder why they would choose Tommy Boy for this.Well I'm happy this is more than I could of hoped for.

paulringodaman 01-15-05 01:16 AM

They picked it cause they know every male over the age of 14 will pick up this movie

While those titles you mentioned are worthy of a special edition, none of them would outsell Tommy Boy.

i agree with you. Just seems like a shame to me. Again, not trying to say anything bad about this movie...I understand it is loved...I laughed first time around, but never plan on picking this one up.

but it wouldn't outsell Titanic...and thats still up in the air.

again...good for those who love it, i'm happy for you

Masamune 01-15-05 05:37 PM

Interesting.

They NEED a commentary with David Spade. Cause other than a better transfer, I don't see why they need to do this..

dcprules 01-15-05 05:44 PM

At first I thought this was just going to be someone requesting a 2 disc SE, not actual news of a SE. I'd never think I would see the day that this would happen. Good news, though, never got the original and I hope they can find some good special features.

Was Tommy Boy the only DVD previewed getting the new 2 disc SE, or were there others previewed on Without a Paddle?

atari2600 01-15-05 07:35 PM

excellent!!!!

Every male over 14?

;)

Masamune 01-15-05 08:23 PM

If this is gonna happen then BLACK SHEEP won't be too far behind. It's basically TOMMY BOY 2...

scott shelton 01-16-05 12:41 AM

May I request a little ALMOST HEROES love?

I'd second the "Almost Heroes" love. A truly underrated movie...

Why this isn't on DVD is a continuing mystery to me.

LargeLuva 01-16-05 02:09 PM

i saw the trailer for this 2 disk set on the W/O A Paddle dvd also, and i nearly did a cartwheel! Farley is my idol, and id gladly double dip on anything he was involved in!

Cant wait to pick up this HOLY SCHNEIKE EDITION!!

Mr.Briggs 01-16-05 03:34 PM

I am thrilled by the news of a Tommy Boy 2 disc SE & happy I held off buying the first release. It's just a shame that one has to purchase Without A Paddle to find out about its release. We're truly lucky to have not one but 2 people here who bought it and reported finding the preview. Without A Paddle sold what 10 maybe 15 copies so far?

Not putting down those who enjoyed Without A Paddle. I guarantee I've got a bunch of movies in my library that would make most people's skin crawl too.

chileorgullo 01-16-05 04:51 PM

can the trailer be found anywhere else?
I gotta see it to believe it.

asianxcore 01-16-05 05:05 PM

hope this is true. would be nice to have some commentary tracks on this movie.

critterdvd 01-16-05 10:18 PM

God this movie had Elementary School Hell for me! (Let just say being overweight and named Tommy was not very good when this movie came out).

MasterCXtreme 01-16-05 11:01 PM

Wow, this is almost too good to be true. It was one of the first DVD's I ever bought, I never thought we'd see a special edition.

I hope this springs forward the possibilites of an Almost Heroes release as well.

ceeece 01-17-05 11:34 AM

Dang. I haven't even watched the original release I got from Columbia House a year ago. Watched the VHS like crazy though.

Tommy Boy was The First DVD I ever owned. :) I'm very pumped for this release. It would be great if the trailer for the DVD was on-line somewhere.

SlingshotBandit 02-05-05 04:26 AM

Just started watching Without A Paddle. (In the first 5 minutes, so not sure what i'm getting myself into.)

Anyhow, I was going to post about the Tommy Boy: SE, but I figured someone would've announced this already. Did a search, and sure 'nuff someone did.

Sufficed to say that I, too, am looking forward to it.

Big time. (Glad I didn't take advantage of the many 2-for-$whatever sales that this movie was a part of.)

speedyray 02-05-05 08:04 AM

Well, time for the triple dip. I bough the VHS - for a lot of money - then the DVD - now I will buy this - and when the HD version comes out - yes it will be one that gets upgraded. The people questioning this as a new 2 disc SE baffle me. This is quite possibly my generation's Animal House - a comedy you will watch over and over. I know I would much rather have this than Titanic - no offense to those that want a Titanic special edition - I will probably buy that as well if the price is right. It is going to sell a crapload of dopies and that is why it was chosen. (Titanic will also, and it will come out in due time)

dsa_shea 03-11-05 10:01 PM

So what the hell are the specs for this 2 disc set?

dmpre99 03-12-05 01:07 AM

why do you need a better transfer for a comedy??? Its like having 5.1 audio without a 5.1 audio speakers. Sure its nice to have but whats the point.

coladar 03-12-05 04:29 AM

Err... The same reason you would want a higher quality video with anything? Why exactly is a comedy considered not worthy of improved video/audio, commentaries, extra features and everything else that many of us will enjoy on this release? :crap:

PHMustang2000 03-12-05 11:28 PM

Too bad there won't be a commentary by Chris Farley :( RIP Chris

That comparison is simply insane. So what you are saying is that no people who would possibly want to own Tommy Boy would have an HDTV or notice something like picture quality?

Not to mention disc 2 is probably not just a second copy of disc 1.

Numes 04-28-05 12:11 PM

I'm going to resurrect this thread too. Any new info to report?
