I'm not going to worked up over something until I see it. In a couple years, the whole idea may blow over..

The second part of this post illustrates it perfectly. Even though there was absolutely no indication that NL wanted this (I assumed that the "we" in question was Weta) people point the double dipping finger at NL, because PJ is way too much an artiste to be in it for the green. If Fox anniunced a SW re-release, would anyone, die-hards included, think "hmm, Fox are greedy bastards!" No, they would aim the blame squarely at GL. All I am saying is it was 2 posts in before someone was in with the PJ ass-kiss. PJ is like any one of us. There is no shame in getting paid.
There must be someone else out there that sees the point I am trying to make. I am not commenting on the releases, I am commenting on the PJ love-fest that runs rampant through this forum.

I just think you are all a hypocritical bunch that thinks that PJ can do no wrong.
I see your point and I agree completely.

I don't want to turn this into a Lucas vs. Jackson flamewar, but I would like to toss in my two cents on the Gollum issue. If all Jackson does for a future version is change CG Gollum in a few short, dimly lit shots of FOTR to a slightly different CG Gollum... while it's still a change, I'd argue it's more akin to removing matte lines around space ships or unwanted reflections from snake pits, both of which I haven't heard anyone complaining about. It's a minor technical/continuity fix, not a change which has any impact whatsoever on character or plot. In the end, both directors have equal freedom to do whatever they want, but I'd humbly argue that IF PJ ever updates FOTR Gollum (as it's all just hypothetical right now), that change is hardly in the same league as what people complain about regarding the Star Wars SEs.

star wars vs LOTR is a bad idea...Ask peter jackson what he thinks of George Lucas....If he says, that guy is a dumb ass old man and needs to give up the ghost, he raped my childhood and han shot first, now watch me remake king kong and blow all your asses away........then i might say this debate would be merited.
as for the Gollum shots in FOTR...they don't bother me at all.........if they changed them....don't think it would really bother me either, as long as on the dvd they showed you the original vs the new and improved...
i have always been a fan of the Star Wars SE, but not at the cost of losing the Originals for all time....I want both....same as LOTR theatrical and EE....give me both....people will buy both...people will enjoy both

Peter Jackson does not own the movies. New Line Cinema does. It will be New Line who ultimately approves and releases any additional editions.
If anything, I'm a little pissed off that the deleted scenes are being held off for a third release.
Also, and I'm probably going to sound like an asshole for bringing this up, but I would've rather had the deleted scenes on the fourth feature disc of the EE instead of all the Cameron Duncan tributes. I'm sorry, but aside from being a friend of Peter Jackson and living in NZ, he didn't have anything to do with the movies and all of the stuff on the DVDs just seems completely out of place. And it's depressing as hell.
It's frustrating when you're watching these "making of" features or commentaries where they're constantly referencing all of these cool deleted scenes that aren't anywhere on the fucking DVDs. So far, we've seen snippets of Eowyn vs. an Orc at Helm's Deep, Sauron vs. Aragorn at the Black Gate, and the Epilogue. But the full scenes aren't anywhere on the discs; either re-integrated into the EEs or as seperate deleted scenes.

Ah, and about changing the Gollum shot in FOTR, I can't say I really see the point. It's about two seconds long and dark, so I don't really see why Jackson would even bother. And even then, I don't see anything wrong with it.

Wow. There's always been plenty of support for Lucas, Tarantino, etc. on these forums, and there has also always been plenty of criticism of them. I have seen very little difference in the treatment of Peter Jackson here, however. Plenty of people love his movies, and plenty others get some sort of strange pleasure out of tearing him down.
The only difference that I can see is those who fall into the category of Lucas-lover and/or PJ-hater seem to suffer from a persecution complex.

I would only be interested in a double dip if the films were edited together as one long movie over 6 discs, with credits cut out until the end. But since that's not happening, I;ll stick with that I have.

The article mentions that the EEs are going to be the same. So that means all the new material will be on a separate disc(s). So it's feasable that NL could offer the new material separately to those who already own all the EE's, much like Universal did with the Jurrasic Park box set.
