I didn't know they could put boots in anamorphic.
If it's made by a real bootlegging outfit and not some guy at home, bootlegs can sometimes surpass the quality of a regular release. Many of the Crouching Tiger boots actually came with premiums like small swords and what not.

You don't know that.

And again, I don't prefer that version.

I don't know. The extra violence really adds spice to it.

So you get a few extra seconds of violence but you also get the narration and the ending, both of which I hate. Plus the DC has the unicorn which actually helps add depth to the movie. To be perfectly honest, until I saw the DC in theaters when it was re-released, I didn't really care for the movie.

many criterions are R0 yes, but they are still only distributed in the US and Canada (R1). Criterion does not distribute their dvds in any other countries as far as I know. If you can buy Criterions on websites outside of R1, it is because they have imported them. So, the claim of the orginal poster's friend that it might be "some European branch of Criterion" is false.

I live outside of North America. Will Criterion DVDs play on my machine?

The vast majority of Criterion DVDs are released with North American rights only. While there are DVD players that have been altered to allow various region discs to play on them and while many of our releases do not carry region encoding, we can not ship to addresses outside North America, nor can we provide technical support to customers outside of this territory.

Does Criterion sell DVDs directly?

We do not. Criterion DVDs are available through DVD retailers only.

Are Criterion DVDs available outside of North America?

Criterion Collection DVDs are generally available throughout the U.S. and Canada. From time to time, certain editions are distributed internationally, usually by our studio licensors and their international partners, but at present we have no international distribution arm of our own.

Speaking of Bladerunner...whatever happened to Warner? Aren't they gonna make a special edition? If they hooked up Superman...they surely can do that same thing to this one?

Warner owns the Superman franchise and can do whatever they like. They don't own Blade Runner, they just have a distribution deal on it.
