Why do I keep buying them...

...when I have hundreds of hours of unwatched DVDs in my collection. This does not include commentaries, which I plan on watching, too. This does include TV series that I have not seen as of yet, such as Buffy and The Shield(thank you Fox season 1 sale).

Xmas just made me even further behind, with movies such as Collateral, Bourne Supremacy, Shaun of the Dead, Spiderman2, and Kill Bill 2...which are all new to me.

Damnit. I just can't stay away. I have some serious movie watchin' to do. Gotta go.

Cameron 12-27-04 11:41 PM

just get in 3 a day

victant 12-27-04 11:43 PM

Well, it does grant you immortality.... ;)

tbwmp88 12-28-04 01:41 AM

Hehe I am just like you, but I buy them because they are cheap or I get as gifts. Before when I had no job I could spend half the day watching a whole season of a tv series, now i'm lucky if I can finish a season in a week.

Quatermass 12-28-04 09:44 AM

If you quit your job, that's an extra 8 hours of movie watching a day. Also, a catheter will save you a surprising amount of time throughout the day.

Squirrel God 12-28-04 09:46 AM

Gotta be disciplined. Get up early, watch one before work. Start watching as soon as you get home. Skip a few hours sleep each night so you can watch another one ...

Not that I speak from personal experience, of course.

Shap 12-28-04 10:30 AM

The trick is to get a portable DVD player and just watch movies from the time you wake up until the time you go to bed. If you can afford it, wear goggles that have a TV screen in it and plug them into a 400-disc DVD changer you wear in a backpack.

TNAJason 12-28-04 10:34 AM

Shaun of The Dead has a FANTASTIC cast commentary. I'd def recommended that commentary..... Sorry about your luck, now I just ruined it even further by telling you about the fantastic commentary. Great selection of movies there tho. I own them all :)

natevines 12-28-04 10:35 AM

Uggg, I totally agree. I have at least 50 I haven't watched, yet continue to buy. Sad, really.

QuiGonJosh 12-28-04 10:38 AM

One thing you could do is...STOP BUYING THEM...maybe...ya know... ;)

ruk 12-28-04 11:09 AM

well i am just like you, still have not watched alien quadrilogy, the ultimate oliver stone collection, the matrix collection, god knows how many movies still have not been watched but yet i keep buying.

Bronkster 12-28-04 11:17 AM

To me, "owning" does not equate to "needing to watch", so I also have a few hundred titles that I haven't gotten to. Yet. I like being able to have a choice when I go to watch a movie. Will I ever catch up? Who knows. Does it matter? No. Am I still having a good time? Yes.

Mopower 12-28-04 11:18 AM

There probably 10-15 $5.88 Wal-Mart DVD's I have that I haven't watched and probably never will. They just seemed like a good value at the time. ;)

Al Padrino 12-28-04 11:36 AM

I've had the same problem, although in recent months, I've knocked down what would've been a backlog of well over 100 titles to about half of that.

My main problem is that I have a LOT of titles that are massive (i.e. TV shows). I mean, I just finished watching the Ken Burns' Baseball set, which is nearly a DAY's worth of watching and that only technically counts as one title. When I think of it like that, I don't feel as bad for having so many unwatched titles.

But I have found that since getting my portable DVD player, I've been watching more. I don't know what it is, but the convience of just being able to watch a DVD wherever is appealing, and I'm using that even when I'm able to use one of my other players. Since getting it on Christmas, I've gone through the last four innings of Baseball, the last two discs of Sanford & Son S4, and most of Pride of the Yankees.

Quack 12-28-04 12:56 PM

I find that I don't have a lot of time, but I still pick up sets and movies to complete my collection. ie, the Alien Quadrilogy, I have watched each movie, but haven't dived into the extras yet, and with about 40 hours of them, I'm sure I'll get around to them at some point.

Michael T Hudson 12-28-04 01:50 PM

Watch the Shield right now. Then pick up the Wire season 1. That is all I have to say.

shinyhappydisc 12-28-04 02:48 PM

I'm waiting on the Wire Season 1...want season 2 to come out first so I can just do a big marathon...

critterdvd 12-28-04 02:48 PM

I find that December/January and July/August are usually the best time to watch dvd's cause you can probably get 2/3 movies a night, or a disc or 2 of a tv show done in a single night, becuase there is nothing good on tv (usually).

nightmaster 12-29-04 04:28 AM

Obviously you ain't got yer priorities straight. ;)

DVDFreaker 12-29-04 05:03 AM

I have that problem also, I have 30 TV shows on DVD and only watched 3 of them, hell, I have no job and no school so I have plenty of time but don't watch them. I have around 115 DVDs and only watched 5 of them and for some reason, I like to collect more than watch them, I keep on buying and don't watch them.

mzupeman2 12-29-04 05:44 AM

I'm not as far behind on my DVD's as some of you but my queue list for what I need to watch I have:

TV Shows -

Dick Van Dyke Seasons 3, 4, 5
Buffy The Vampire Slayer Season 7
King Of The Hill Season 3
Simpsons Season 5 (in the process of watching now)
GI Joe Season 2 Part 1
Sex And The City Season Six Part Two
I Love Lucy Season 2
The Flintstones Season 2

Movies-

The Ultimate Matrix Box Set w/ Neo Bust
Open Water
Anchorman
King Arthur
Van Helsing
Girl, Interrupted
Ransom
Resident Evil: Apocolypse

I tells ya, it's really hard to keep up. But you keep buying just because you know there's more DVD's coming out, you have the money, and you need to keep up with the purchases because if you don't you'll fall behind even more!

MrVette99 12-29-04 08:26 AM

I quite buying DVDs after LOTR ROTK EE. It's great! I've got tons to watch and the impulse to buy more is zero. What makes this work is when you fill your DVD rack. The idea of buying yet another rack, assembling it, having it take up even more floor space, is always in the back of the mind when seeing DVDs.

ruk 12-29-04 01:39 PM

because we are dumb!!
