I got ONLY Full Screen DVD's for Christmas...........
I asked for a bunch of DVD from my relatives for Christmas (aunts, uncles, grandparents, cousins etc) and to my dismay they were all FULL SCREEN!!! I asked my Aunt and Uncle why they got me the full screen DVD's and they said so I could "see the whole movie" I got about 50 DVD's in all and 44 of them were in FULL SCREEN. Most of them were purchased at "Wal Mart" there is not one around where I live (my relatives live in Georgia) so I do not know when or how I will be able to return these. My family told me the people at "Wal Mart" told them that Full Screen is what many of their customers buy, so that is why they stock so many. Any suggestions on what I should do? Thanks in advance.

Well, you are partly to blame. You should have been more specific as to what you wanted. In any event, this time of year, it's a pretty common thing to want to change FS over to WS. You shouldn't have a problem, but I'd spread out the exchanges over a few stores. However, this is fraud, as the DVDs were not purchased there, so you should do what's best, and get the receipts and go to Walmart and exchange them.

Wow. I felt bad that I only got Dodgeball, which I thought sucked, and Tru Calling, which is cool so far. I'll consider myself lucky that even my mother-in-law who hates me knew knew enough to get Dodgeball in Widescreen.
I agree that you MUST get those receipts!

They should have gotten gift receipts or something. I *never* ask for anything from my relatives aside from money or gift certificates. Unless I'm in the store with them and telling them exactly what to buy. I find it hard to believe that so many people are still so ignorant when it comes to foolscreen. They're going to be sad when they finally splurge for that widescreen TV. I'm personally glad that we have no Wal-Marts anywhere near us. It just means that my community has taste and the property values will continue to rise.

I agree 100% I got some gift cards to Circuit City and such, but unfortunatly i was also given these damn full screen DVD's. I am just going to take them back to other stores as the closest Wal Mart is over 100 miles away thank god.

This is why I am very careful in putting DVDs on my Christmas list that I know to only be available in one edition. If there's any possibility of my family screwing up and buying the wrong copy of a movie, they inevitably will. I don't give them the chance.
If you aren't able to exchange the discs, just eBay them and use the proceeds to buy what you want. Even if you don't get enough cash to buy 50 DVDs, these were gifts so you're coming out ahead whatever you wind up with.

You should be able to take them back to any Wal-Mart, and as long as they're totally unopened and sealed, they should take them all back with no problem, receipt or not. You don't know until you try.

The thing is they know I have a widescreen TV. It was the idiots at "Wal Mart" that told them most people buy the full screen versions. My Aunt told me the majority of the new releases they had were full screen only. I do not know why they do not stock more widescreen movies?

I got 1 P&S dvd this year(Men of Honor),while my mom also bought P&S versions of other films for either all of us(family gift) or for my other siblings.
My mom knows the difference between the two,but unforunately. She did most of her dvd shopping at Wal-Mart this year and did not remember to check the box for the aspect ratio mention.
I noticed on all the WM dvds, they stated "Wal-Mart" on the sticker/sku on the front of the box. So I don't see how you could exchange them at other stores?
Basically she took advantage of the many Fox double packs, which sadly WM carries in P&S only(if given the choice).
At least I have never gotten a P&S version of a film I asked for
+ the three dvds I did ask for, were O.A.R. only!
I also prevented my mom from picking me up Dances with Wolves:theatrical version(MGM) and Grease. Since she was going to buy them at either Target or Wal-Mart who carry the P&S Grease only, and Dances:Theatrical is P&S only.
So basically she decided to get me/us some other random dvds in their place. Oh well,I told her not to bother going nuts on dvd or gifts in general(but she 'feels' she 'must' for whatever reason).
She could have easily picked up the widescreen Grease at Borders. She forget to look, while trying to find(she forgot my list) I Wanna Hold Your Hand.
Oh well,I'll pick it up myself sometime.
