It was released under the moniker as a VHS tape, I believe.

Potential MidNite Movies, by George!

I was on the DVDDrive-In site looking at the MidNite Movies petition and pulled up the list of movies George Reis, et al compiled of films now under the control of Sony/MGM which would be ideal for future MidNite Movie disks.

As I look over this list I've come to the conclusion that, er, I WANT THEM ALL!

So, in an ideal world where the MM line just keeps right on churning them out (though Sony has probably drilled a wooden stake into the heart of the MM line), how could I do this? I think I'd need another job, but then I'd have less time to watch them!

Take a looky!

Of all the double feature discs, which one(s) would some of you recommend checking out? Which movies hold up best to the test of time? I've been thinking of grabbing some of these for awhile but I don't think I've seen a single movie in the bunch... I hate to end up with some really cheesy stuff that I can't watch. Some of the titles definitely sound intriguing though!

In general I love horror movies and some B-movies. I already have Killer Klowns and Frogs. Sometimes I have the guys over for movie night and some of these might be good candidates for MST3K-style commentary, if nothing else.

I absolutely ADORE Countess Dracula/The Vampire Lovers. I think out of all the double features (and I have all the horror/sci fi ones) that's the one I revisit the most.

Also, you can never go wrong with Vincent Price. The Abominable Dr. Phibes double set is also a good choice.

You may want to start conservatively and just ease into them slowly.

For starters ya gotta check out: Last Man On Earth/Panic In Year Zero!

I was going to mention that title as well, but didn't as I know it has been a real pain in the butt for people to track down.

I've had it for some time, but others have not been so fortunate.

Also, one should take into account that many of the Vincent Price ones were re-released with his boxset which also comes with Witchfinder General, and the Roger Corman box has BLOODY MAMA, BUCKET OF BLOOD, YOUNG RACERS as new entries, but also a re-release of PREMATURE BURIAL, THE MAN WITH X-RAY EYES, WILD ANGELS, GAS-S-S, and THE TRIP.

The Roger Corman's are all anamorphic except "The Young Racers and Bucket of Blood." The VP Collection are the original Midnite Movies, just repackaged...if it wasn't anamorphic then it's not now either.

Is there anything exclusive to these boxes or just the same stuff I have (or just released) seperately?

It looks like some of the older Midnite Movies are back in print.
I would guess all the ones on display on the website, but I haven't seen them available anywhere else yet:

http://www.midnitemoviesdvd.com/

I ordered Deranged/Motel Hell and Tomb of Ligeia/An Evening With Edgar Allan Poe from the official website last week. I never received a ship confirmation, but the UPS man delivered them today.

That's a great list, Carcosa! Thanks for putting that together.

I'm glad to see that some of these OOPs are getting re-released by FOX. It really looks like FOX is taking the time and effort to continue this series, and they've done a good job so far from what I've seen.

I wonder if the Sony releases (#39, 40) should even be considered true MMs? In their short tenure, Sony pretty much killed the series with those releases; not to mention they changed the artwork so radically it's not even close to the other MM releases.

Thanks Nth Power! I've been wanting Countess Dracula/The Vampire Lovers for a while now, but I didn't want to pay the inflated prices for the OOP disc.

If anyone wants the Comedy of Terrors/The Raven dvd, Movies Unlimited has them for sale. Price is $29.99 right now. I just bought it for $14.99 last week from them. Price must have gone up after I bought it. There's a limit of one per customer and it is indeed a brand new copy.

I am disappointed that "The Mad Magician" was not included in the Vincent Price box set.
