They announced an SE of 12 Monkeys a while back - it was going to be a 2-disc set - basically the same exact thing as the old disc, only with DTS, which would put the documentary on the 2nd disc and it'd also have deleted scenes not on the old disc - but they never got around to releasing it.

I assume this is what the new SE will be.

Yes, it's DTV. Eugene Levy is the only cast member returning, and it will follow Stiffler's brother's adventures in band camp.

I suppose it's too early for a features list, right? I'm wondering if I should sell my R2 'Deer Hunter' disc with the Cimino commentary.

Hot diggity...there's a handful of non-anamorphic titles I'll be happy to upgrade.

Nothing wrong with the old one. Universal simply has a habit of releasing newer editions (sometimes more inferior) just for the $$. Take a look at the specs of the upcoming Apollo 13, which is inferior than the older one IMO.

Dunno if this has been asked in this thread or not but is Alfred Hitchcock Presents Season 1 the original one from the 50's-60's or the ones from the late 80's?

No Backdraft (SE) = No sale.

No, but anyway...I don't have any of those titles, but the Casino (SE) looks tempting.

I used to have the Deer Hunter VHS and quite frankly, I never finished watching the thing. I got bored shortly after the beginning Vietnam scene. So I don't know if I'll ever buy that film.

I'm holding on to mine - it's listed as a UK Exclusive, and is quite good.

There's nothing to fix. II and III were the misframed ones.

I'm pretty sure he meant the trilogy as a whole. Or is it only the first movie being re-relesed?

damn it! Where's the 3-Disc The Frighteners at? With all the success that PJ has had, you'd think Uni would be smart enough to give us what we want!

I noticed that too, but I wasn't sure if it meant that it was produced exclusively for the UK or just that the UK was, as of that printing, the only place to have it. I wouldn't expect them to produce a new commentary track...

but it's some kind of weird deal where one company has domestic distribution (Universal, obviously) and another one (WB, if memory serves) has foreign, right?

I'd imagine it'll be released in 2006, to tie in with the 'King Kong' DVD release, and the tenth anniversary of 'The Frighteners'.

But I hope it's sooner too.

ViewAskewbian is right; before we all get too excited we might want to consider the "new" Apollo 13: Anniversary Edition or the latest incarnation of Meet the Parents as examples of Universal's continuing committment to quality. We might get a Big Lebowski "the dude abides edition" that is the old disc with 2 added deleted scenes and 20 new forced trailers added, or a Deer Hunter "extreme nam edition" with a badly misframed wisescreen cut, or a 12 Monkeys "totally trapped in time edition" with a new "rapper's reflect" doc and no DTS.

i was hoping for backdraft same day as ladder 49

could 12 monkeys go criterion with many of the other terry gilliam films? Warner has the rights to the short film it is based off of...(it appeared on short 2 dreams)

lets hope we get better fare on these rereleases than the newest dvds churned out

I am looking forward to
12 Monkeys
Casino (Anniversary Edition)
The Deer Hunter (SE)

However, since this is Universal, I will wait for disc specs and reviews before I get too excited.

Is it going to be something different from the original box or just the reformatted discs?

What's your point?
